Very probably, but that drive home from Oxford was a tough one.
Wasn't it just. By the last few minutes I'd have even settled for the point, so forcing the RS to have to win at Chelsea to be champions. Then came thei last minute winner...... Couldn't bring myself to talk to anyone for days.

Yes he was a great one season wonder we altered our play to be direct - as soon as he went the very next season we went back to playing football via our midfield we won the league......

Agreed but what has this got to do with him saying we were the best team he ever played for?

You've got to remember that by the end of the Lineker season in 85/6 Kendall was hotly being tipped to take over from Venables at Barcelona in 1987. There's a school of thought that suggests that Kendall did not do too much to keep Lineker from Barcelona's clutches for the 86/7 season as he was wanting to keep them sweet.

I was in the RAF at the time, based at Brize Norton which is very close to Oxford so I was able to go to that game. It really was soul destryoing and put me in a foul mood for about a week.

And it didn't get any better when my boss (married to the daughter of a former Liverpool manager) invited me to use his spare ticket for the FA Cup Final a few weeks later!

I have had some epic nights at Brize!

Kendall, by his own admission in his autobiography, was negotiating a move to Barcelona for himself during the spring of 1986 to takeover from Terry Venables that summer. Ok, it fell through in the end, but it really has to be asked did Kendall take his eye off the ball during a critical part of the season in which we ended up blowing the double?

Lineker came back from the World Cup and was basically told he was surplus to requirements and free to talk to Barcelona. Kendall did nothing to keep him. Was it down to HK still coveting the Barca job and was hoping to follow him there?
