Going back, he was saying we should be trying to sign the “top top” defensive midfielders in Europe. I challenged that and said why would they come to Everton, which apparently is the wrong attitude.

Leicester and Spurs didn’t go out and sign these types of players, they developed good players into better players, I have not said anything to the contrary.

So had no idea why you were questioning me about it.

It’s all banter, no malice intended x

No probs mate.

I totally missed the first post. So it’s on me!!

I actually like that we are known for being a club that gets good value from their transfers. It’s why I was thrilled after last summer. It’s also why I’m kind of against Zaha - as will want mega money and it’s clear he only wants to come to us as no London teams are after him.

If he comes I’ll be thrilled but also concerned... all the guys on big money who we want to keep will want more.

I’ll vault you when you’re telling us for the 25000th time that we have good players and the only reason we lost 7-0 at anfield is because have a poor mentality and accept mediocrity.

I do think we have had a culture of mediocrity in the past. The players we had were better than how they performed often. But I genuinely think that in 17/18 we actually just had very poor players all over the pitch. I think we’ve done well to bring in players who seem to have a better attitude as evidenced by us putting in probably the best pair of performances against Liverpool out of anyone in the league apart from City.

I hope neither of us have to discuss this point this season as Kean Richarlison and co go about cockily dismantling the top teams.

That would depend though. If he was fourth choice then that wouldn't be too bad and yes he may only need to play a couple of games and get some experience. But that would currently mean Holgate was 3rd choice, and I think that is a big problem. There's a realistic chance that your 3rd choice centre half ends up playing 20+ games, and I just don't think he's anywhere near good enough to do that. Also Pennington is horrendous. I have no love for Rojo but nobody who's ever seen Pennington play could ever honestly think keeping him was a better idea than bringing in somebody of Rojo's stature.

We would have a difference of opinion there a chara.
