To compete at the top you need expensive subs and Silva has noted that Gomes and Davies can fill the Sig void. A few injuries and that overstocked centre mid soon looks light weight.

It's an additional CM to what we had last season, and Siggy is capable of playing CM as well if required, and a good few players are capable of playing Siggy's 10 role as well, Bernard etc.

I take your point about injuries, it certainly applies to our lack of central defenders at present, but the signing of Gbammin will see us overstocked in CM imo.

If Gbammin is of first team quality, then the likes of Schneiderlin and Davies have surely got to be thinking about how much game time they are likely to get next season?

Anyway, I'd happily advocate sending Schneiderlin to Palace in a deal involving Zaha if it was at all possible, and I still maintain that nobody is going to be crazy enough to pay decent money for James McCarthy in the last year of his contract.

No, I'm saying that the majority of players, particularly wingers who rely on pace etc will be declining once they're past 32 or so

I'm not saying that applies to everyone, but it's relatively fair I would suggest

If we were paying €70m for a 23 year old, I'd get it more because you get 3 years and then you've got a player you can still get a huge fee for

This would presumably be Zaha's final "big" move, so for a team like us where we cant really afford to buy players in their prime as we need to be mindful of what we can sell them for, it seems like a big deviation from the "plan".

Again, I really like him as a player. I think he's tremendous and in many ways I'd be made up to have him here, but it doesn't make sense for lots of reasons too.

Fair comment I still disagree though. I think at 26/27 he still has a good 5-6 years at the top of his game. Anything can happen in today's market.
