...and only @Megatron answered the question.

I’d like to see one old and one new. Dzeko would be nice, he has experience of the pl and I imagine wouldn’t mind not playing every minute of every game (not sure on availability). For the youth... I mean the obvious is Kean just because we know he’s for sale. Maybe see if Werner is up for the PL challenge? He’d be top dollar though. Maybe dembele who was at Celtic... he’s only just moved though and not sure on availability or desire

If we got Malcolm in I’d be happy to downgrade from the youth forward to maybe someone like Abraham... surplus to requirements, granted not got a stellar track record but... Swansea, messi would have struggled (appreciate he’s not a forward).

I’m not commenting on other strikers we’ve been linked with as I’m either not keen (pun alert), or just don’t know anything about them.

There's nothing there mate. He's is not and never will be a predator. Zero composure, no sense of finding THE most vulnerable position in the box to hurt the opposition.

Let's have him out on loan and / or sold.

Actually agree with that Dave

I'm not sure a player of Kean's age is the right situation for us at the moment. It'd be too much responsibility. This league is way more difficult in terms of tempo from the one he'd arrive from. Dzeko in theory sounds good, but opposite problem to Kean: 33 years old.

Werner wont come here.

We need an experienced striker in a good league in their mid-20s.

The point being...in lieu of Brands actually signing a striker, I'm being asked to come up with them...by people who have no idea who to go for themselves.
You can go read the transfer thread. There's only been a dozen discussed repeatedly. Sorry you actually have to do your own homework.

Ideally yeah, but I think they’re as rare as rocking horse poop at the moment, so my solution was to get an oldie and a genuine class prospect and hopefully the combination would be tantamount to getting the mid 20s striker that would bag 20 a season... until the prospect (hopefully) steps up.

There's one thing for sure: if we head into this seaosn with DCL and Tosun providing the spearhead of our attack we are not serioius bout this season. A decision will have been made to plate spin and be mid-table and safely out of trouble.

Totally agreed. That’s why I’m kind of made up with the Schalke links for Tosun ... there’s no way he’s going without someone coming in.

Unless it’s welbeck.

I actually agree with you, but this won't happen for a few reasons

1) Any really top striker in their mid 20s will be prohibitively expensive and will already have CL options or already be at a top club
2) The club seem to really rate DCL and don't want to block his progression and have said as much, so any signing would have to complement him
3) It's more likely we will get a striker in their 30s who we can bring in to do a job for a year or two who will not break the bank and leave a pathway open for DCL
4...or a young striker on reasonable wages who can compete with DCL and we can potentially sell on for more money

Now, the DCL thing is the crux of it. The club rate him. Many fans don't. I can see both sides, but if Brands and Silva both think he has a big future then that shapes our thinking and the likes of Werner, Belotti, Haller, etc wouldn't fit the model we are looking for. Not saying I agree, but you can see the thought process behind it.

Strker in their mid-20s out of one of the European elite leagues would be prohibitive, yes. But there's a whole number of leagues that fall outside La Liga / the Bundesliga / Serie A and the PL.

This, presumably, is why a specialist like Brands is employed...that they have a great range of knoweledge about what's out there. Surley his methodilogy is not that simplistic that he grubs his way through the discarded players from Europe's top clubs? That's just one avenue he should be exploring. I'd really like to know what his scouting regime is all about, because it looks obvious and limited to me so far.
