In the 17 years since Moyes arrived we've finished 7th or above 11 times. Big picture wise we are one of the top 7 teams in this league.

We don’t have a divine right to demand 7th or above every year. I get aspiring to challenge the top 6 or top 4, but saying the “bare minimum” should have been 7th after the mess of the last few years is just insane. Most rational people agreed that 7th was the best we could’ve hoped for this particular season.

“Yeah but Fat Sam got 8th” isn’t an argument either. We were closer to the relegation zone than we were to 6th last season and as close to 12th as we were 7th.

I think you're demanding too much in a short amount of time imo, I don't wanna mention him but the clown across the road has been there for four years and not won a thing but he's built a squad up who is challenging for the League and going into CL finals, Yet you want a trophy in Silva's second season? Sorry mate you are either thin on patience or just not a fan
Think thats fixed

The same as "top 4" or "top 6" minimum.

If people genuinely dont see that their is a hierarchy in this league then they are deluded.

Chelsea/Utd/Arsenal finishing 6th or 7th still gets them Europa League most seasons however to fall out of the top 6 (yes one place) would be seen as a travesty.

We spend big money, we are moving to a 52k stadium, we have a large fanbase, we have a massive history, we typically finish 7th, we should have kin standards and stop making excuses for underperformance.

Our average Premier league position is 11th. Thats where we NORMALLY finish.

Absolutely no divine right, I agree. However given the quality of the league outside of the top 6 that should be the bare minimum that a club our size, status and level of investment should expect... in normal circumstances.

The recruitment has been badly botched resulting in a couple of years of transition in order to correct this and even then we've finished 8th and probably not miles away from 7th this season.

Next season with things hopefully more balanced out, we're looking at getting 7th place on lock once again with a decent gap between us and the rest.

The sad truth is there is an enormous gap between 6th and the rest (or the top 5 then a gap to Spurs then the rest). 6/7th is a maximum as opposed to a minimum.

We have spent money, little doubt about that, around 90 million this season. Liverpool have basically spent the equivalent on a goalkeeper or a centre half. It's a lot of money for us but in the general scheme of the PL is not the sort of sums that will terrify the sides above us.

What is required is a process. If we can continue to spent reasonable sums of money, in a controlled and strategic way we will get better. This is what happened under Moyes up to about 2009 where we radically improved. We hit a wall when the money ran out. I don't think the money will be allowed to run out in the same way again, but we need to get to that point first.

You're quite right and it's recognised by a lot of people. I listen to the Guardian Football Podcast and they refer to the 'race' for 7th as the "Goodison Park Cup".

Lets be honest.
After all the money spent , and the quality of the players available to him, this season has been a disaster.
A recent mini upturn doesn't cover that up.
The basic , absolute minimum that should have been expected ,was to finish 7th , and to be massively clear of any other club.
The end result is an absolute failure.
Massive improvement required.
Which half decent player is going to come here now , after this season ?.
After the end of Allardyce it all looked positive.
Now we are below Wolves , and in the ranks of WHU , Watford etc.
Tempting for foreign players ? I think not.
Top marks Marco on your first season.
I honestly hope that you improve , you simply have too mate

You need to stop looking for a quick fix as it is not going to happen. Mindset of managers has changed. Silva/Brands are here to build and have already said it is not a quick process. Allardyce cannot be compared because they had different objects. BFS was here to sure us up which he did to a certain extent after the disaster of Koeman and Walsh mis-spending. Allardyce was not here to fix that but Silva is. Not an easy task. Silva could have arrived with a plan to make us dogged and not concede etc but that would have been misguided and is certainly not a process of building. We still have the deadwood that are bogging us down and it is going to take some time to get rid of them and at the same time get money for them considering the wages they are on.

We have been disappointing this season but we have still seen glimpses of some great football IMO. Progress on the pitch followed by lapses on the pitch. It is his first season and has only had one transfer window so far so summer will be interesting with Brands having the tough job of finding willing clubs to take our unwanted players that are still in contract. It is still a work in progress.

And yet Wolves seem to have done it pretty quickly, even with a CF who posters turned their noses up at when he was quoted as an option, only scoring 8 in 33 for Benfica. Silva allegedly built his teams on a strong defense with the quick break model but we've seen performances to rival Allardyce and Koeman for sterility.A few swallows don't make a Spring.

No they haven’t, they’ve had one great season and may finish 7th, so did Burnley last year.

Again, Burnley did it last season having only been promoted the year before.
I've a feeling Wolves will do even better next season, having a one dimensional manager who was easily worked out in Dyche will always hold Burnley back.
