Don't be silly.

He makes a good point to be honest.

I mean what are we building a good squad for? Surely the idea is to finish as high as we possibly can and enter as many comps as we can, to give us more chance of winning trophies?

European football will help us attract players, it will bring money into the club and it will increase the clubs image, which in turn will help us with regards funding for the new stadium. Plus the knock on effect of naming rights and other increased sponsorship.

It wont mean we have to keep useless players.

We're building a good squad for a strong, safe push at European football next season.

Are players really swayed about playing in the Europa though?

Champions League yeah of course but would we really get better players than Bernard and Digne by being in the UEFA Cup?

I’m not convinced.

I’m not convinced.

However, the former Ajax man says he would have thought twice about joining Tottenham if they had missed out on a European spot two years ago.

“I’d rather play in Europe than nothing,” said the Danish midfielder. “Of course there are many games but if you have a big squad like we have I think it shouldn’t be a disappointment to play in Europe. A lot of players want to be in Europe.

“Is it a factor when it comes to signing players? I think so, it would be for me personally. I don’t know if it is for anybody else but I think so. Of course that will probably help the team and the club as well [if we qualify].

“I always wanted to play in Europe, to be seen there or in the Premier League, so it was a big chance and for me it was a good thing.

“Does it help you to finish in the top four if you’re not in Europe? Yes of course it does. I heard we’re one of the teams that has played the most games. But you only get better from playing so I don’t see an issue in playing. At the beginning of the year we can probably count that but later in the year we hope we’ll go to win it.”

Digne and Bernard havent joined to finish 8th.

Are we signing Eriksen if we sneak in? In which case I’m sold!

If we finish high enough to get into Europe, sound. We deal with it.

If we finish high enough, but someone wins the cup so we dont, sound also.

Cant get not trying to finish as high as we can either way.

Thankfully RayRay its only the fans who dont want Europe, the players and everybody else at the club will be praying it happens.

Personally I think we will fall a little short.

I’m being serious. I don’t understand the logic in your post at all. Why would we be better equipped for Europe in 12 months? If you were saying we could make a push to win the league while unencumbered by the extra games everyone else has to play then it would (theoretically) make sense, but if the sim is just to try to finish 6th why bother? Literally the only reward for that is to get into the europa, so why don’t we just do that now?

Why would we want to risk targets being tempted elsewhere by European football this summer? Would we turn our noses up at winning a cup now because it would get us into Europe? If not, why, because by your logic it would actually be detrimental to us? It’s a strange position to take in my opinion.
