Maybe if we spend 150m this summer we can even add a few more points to that tally next season.

By the time we've spent our second billion we could even be top four challengers.

Yes somehow we have to follow the same track as the ones already in the top 6 and spend billions to gain a place there. Only Spurs being the exception.

Or Leicester who won it. I believe we've spent close to what Liverpool have spent in the past five years, right? I know they spent 150m on Allison and van Dijk, but they recouped 100m of that from Coutinho. Another 100m received for Suarez. We sold Lukaku for 90m and Stones for 30m, but have spent about 300m-odd on other players.

This is roughly right I believe. Last five years.

They are just top ups on already good teams. We are starting from a much lower position. They can also pay wages in excess of 150k. We are in a different ball park to them.

That table is actually stunning.
In my head I had the top 6 well ahead then a gap and then us.

Under the Moyes era we laughed at other teams wasting money, we finally get money and do the exact same thing.

A quality striker is needed, 2 seasons with no Lukaku replacement has destroyed us.

Moshiri is going to have to pay a premium to bring in a quality player

This is in no way defending how we've wasted money recently but we didn't all start a zero you know? A lot of those teams started with much better players than we had. We want to break into the Champions League so we need to spend money.

We just need spend money better in future.

is it just me or is the echo website , just the worst type of site to go to read content. the adds and vids etc etc…

for a newspaper website it makes no sense having it the way they do.

not that I use it a lot, but when I do try I just click straight back off... I suppose the fact they get me clicking on for 3 seconds helps them out tho with the click count
I often read RBM in the morning on my way to work. Should they ever link an Echo story i just skip it as its not just aids for the phone, its aids with Ebola.

This. Always amazes me that people use figures over a defined, generally short, period to try and make a point. Everton had an average squad before this big net spend over the last 5 years. We've still still got an average squad but that's different matter, and is related to spending money better and recruiting with an overarching strategy (independent to the head coach) in place.

If anything a combined wages and net transfer fee piece would be a better way to represent expenditure over that period. I would imagine that the table above looks a lot different then
