I'm massively disappointed after that, for all intents and purposes it feels like a loss. I'm not going to say "fair play Blackpool", either, because that would be disrespectful to them. We knew they were going to do that -- attack, press and show no fear. I'm disappointed we weren't as clinical as them, and that we at -- some points -- took our foot off the gas.

BUT, there were good points, namely:

Super Tim Cahill -- 5 goals in 10 PL appearances for him now. That's a top quality striker's record, so well done indeed. Not to mention that's 50 PL goals in all now for him.

Super Seamus Coleman -- good goal, which I'm sure will mean a lot to him. He played well today, although I still think he plays best when overlapping as a fullback.

Yak -- they pressed him well, but a moment of brilliance was shown again for the Cahill assist. He was almost through on goal at one point too, with a trademark great turn, but sadly lost his footing. He still looked 10x better than Saha and Beckford combined though, and I think he's earned the right to start again come Wednesday.

Distin -- besides that one case of dawdling on the ball and getting it robbed, he was immense today. His pace continues to baffle me (how can someone so tall and strong be so bloody quick!?), and he utilised it well again. Even helped going forward, and played a part in the Cahill goal.

Whole heartedly agree with you here. He was fantastic (minus the one brain fart), and has strung together some strong performances. His pace was on display today - good stuff. He looks like what Crouch doesn't: coordinated.
 
I'm really not sure what to feel after that, but my overriding feeling too is one of disappointment. For the first hour of that game, we were completely on top and the '2' completely flattered Blackpool. But I think a trace of complacency kicked in, almost assuming we'd go on to win it, and Blackpool grew stronger and the closing stages was all them. They were energetic, committed, offensive, all the sort of things we knew they would be and for a lot of it we matched them and bettered them, but we started getting overrun. A win vs Bolton (which will be a tough game) now becomes very important - anything else and I'll feel we've really lost some momentum.

As for positives, well let's not get too negative because for a lot of that game, it was a good performance. Distin was again solid, Coleman (after some disappointing performances) had a very good game imo, and I felt by and large the midfield played well and Yak did a decent job. Arteta and Pienaar were pretty good but I have to say the former dwelt on the ball a lot more than I'm used to seeing him.

Overall... disappointed not to get the win but equally Blackpool will justifiably argue they merited a point. Roll on a big game on Wednesday.
 
I don't want to criticise mate, but those points you've raised are just what we should expect from these players - they are not bonuses.

Admittedly they're not MASSIVE positives, but it's unreasonable to expect all your players to play really well all the time. Cahill especially is having his best ever spell in front of goal, so that does deserve recognition.

Well for me Cahill is just doing what we come to expect, so I'm happy for that. Find it very difficult though to look at 2 points dropped against an Ale House side, and look at positives.

Me too, hence me starting a thread entitled "Positives" with a big paragraph on why I was so bitterly disappointed.

But sometimes it's easier, as a fan, to look at the good points too, however much they pale in significance.

Adam would, to be fair. Out of last season's top 6, he'd get into Villa's starting XI, and could make the Spurs bench. He's better than Jenas and Huddlestone, that's for sure. If we didn't have Arteta I might even be tempted.
 
Adam is in a contract dispute. I'd take him on the evidence so far. That said, it could be big fish in a small pond syndrome. Good footballing brain though, no question.

He's only 24 I think. No disrespect to Holloway, but a year under an experienced PL manager, and he could improve further. He's got the footballing brain and a great pass, anyway, so there's a lot to work with.
