The worst thing about the Silva appointment for me and how bad it's been (actually worse than Allardyce) is how utterly predictable the whole saga has been so far and that yet again under Moshiri we appear to be worse than under the previous managers after spending a fortune again. I think Moshiri will stick by his man after we limp home this season and this will drag on until next Christmas when the inevitable will happen and Silva will be binned. Transition my arse.

I'm not criticising his team selection. I'm criticising how poorly we played and how awful we defended. The set play defending is his fault. It's a basic part of coaching. We are not well drilled and look completely disorganised. He can pass buck onto referees and players but he is ultimately responsible. I can live with the mistakes in September and October as we get used to his methods. But it's almost February now and it's completely unforgivable that we are now defending worse.

I'm demoralised with him, the players and the club as a whole right now. I want him to turn this round but I have no hope whatsoever. I think this is beginning of the inevitable. I'm fed up with the lack of pragmatism defensively. Either he's not putting in enough work on the training field or he's a rubbish defensive coach. I'm at a loss.

Agree mate, and i know you weren't.

He failed badly yesterday. Whether due to stubbornness or an inability to fix the glaring issues, it's a concern.

I do think the players are getting let off too much though. We could sack Silva and get another sap in and within months there'd be the same issues.

It always bemuses me that elite level professional footballers cant do the basics without being told what to do.

Its akin to Mo Farah's coach telling him to put one foot in front of the other.

Set play defending is easy if you're well prepared. Players need to all know their role, and what's expected. You can't just walk onto the field with no prep and expect to defend them well.

I have no faith in this coaching set up. Yesterday we lined up with Digne defending the back post where Millwall had put both their centre halves. We had midfield players defending the penalty spot and not the 6 yard box. We had a goalkeeper who refused to come and claim anything.

We are not working hard enough in training or Silva is a poor defensive coach. That's the only possible answers in my mind.

Evening toffee, your backing a lame duck here dave, stick a fork in this joker hes done.
I have no dog in this fight, tbh. He stays and does well - great; he fails and we hit the panic button again - another balls up from Moshiri and I shrug and accept his idiocy. I do though want to see the Director of Football have a go at sorting himself out and then this club.

Any idea what he's up to? Chewing some pot brownies back in Amsterdam maybe? He's certainly not effecting things here in a positive way.

I read this so often it makes my head hurt. Whilst the players should field some of the blame it's a vastly different squad to 18 months ago. Yet, here we are with the same frailties. It HAS to fall on the manager, their job is to get his players ready for the next match. If their heads drop, it's up to HIM to get them back up for it.

Richarlison, Sigurdsson, Digne, Coleman, Pickford, Keane, Gueye, Gomes and Zouma have predominantly featured in almost all the matches we've had. If something doesn't work, you change it up. For the most part, that group of players have underperformed for large parts of the season.

The board didn’t sanction 40 million on Richarlison and 30 on Yerry Mina for us to stabilise in mid table. Europe was the target. It’s not the reason Allardyce got fired, but it was undoubtedly the target for Silva this season. And so it should be, 7th should be the bare minimum for every Everton manager at the start of the season.
You might well be right mate...and therein lies the rub. You cannot set an Everton team targets like that. Our team of lion-hearts, if they feel even an iota of expectation being placed on them, will crumble...they’ll fold like a cheap suit.
Silva’s fault? ...well yes, partially. But he’s just the latest in a string of post-Moyes managers who can’t get a tune out of Everton players.
Something is rotten in the kingdom of Everton. The foulest stench is in the air, the funk of forty thousand years. And grisly ghouls from every tomb are closing in to seal our doom.

Sad to say, there’s nothing thrilling about Everton

18 months ago we'd finished 7th, mate. We weren't saying we had the same weaknesses.

You argue that the players are different but in the last season and a half we've had four managers (counting Unsworth). So no, it can't ALL fall on the manager. It simply can't.

I agree he has to change it up. I'm not excusing him. But the players don't do their jobs either.

There were early signs of it improving with us as well.

It's easy to forget that from late September to the start of December we looked very good and had got ourselves into 6th heading into the derby.

Can't really say there's been any more signs of improvement at West Ham. They spent more money than us in the summer and i've watched them a lot for work this season - the main plus they have that we don't have is a quality striker.
I was impressed with Everton during November, with the wins over Brighton and Cardiff and the draw at Chelsea. Other than that period, I can't say that I've seen anything better than what most average teams produce.

Either way, we were into 6th, and playing decent footy.

Went away to the big sides and matched them, bar one or two mistakes that cost us, but the signs were there. It's easy to brush it aside but at the time we were looking ready to mount a push for at the least 7th.

It's all going horribly wrong at the moment, nobody is arguing otherwise.
