That's a shame, I like that one. My other favourite they do is the Irish National Anthem, we will chant a soldiers song. I don't suppose you know if we tried reworking that either do you?
Sorry, Stan

...I’ve never understood why fans want to stand up at a football match so this wouldn’t be for me but I totally accept and respect that many would like this.
Try being tall, mate. I ache like hell after sitting in Goodison.
This should stop the bedwetting about capacity for a bit at least...
Well not quite as all the other clubs attendances will go up by the same amount (or more in Newcastle's case just so they pack more in than us and they never use seats anyhow up there). The reason we are getting a new stadium is to try and close the matchday income gap that other clubs get will in fact just remain the same as it is now.
I think that hooliganism, as you said, and a complete lack of health and safety considerations made standing at matches unsafe in the past. That will have to be proven
I think a lot of the hooliganism has gone out of football
I’d still like to see 1:1 at the start and gradually increased
But there is no history of crowd troubles at GAA gamesI think that hooliganism, as you said, and a complete lack of health and safety considerations made standing at matches unsafe in the past.
As you know Brisan there are standing terraces in every GAA ground in Ireland where supporters can be packed in on the days of a big game and this is done without and problems for organisers or fans.
Croke Park has a capacity of 82k and is an ultra modern stadium with great facilities as is Pairc Ui Chaoimh with a capacity of about 45k.
Standing can be safe at game, it doesn't rave to have a ratio of 1:1 because it must be properly organised and stewarded.
At first I was well peeved that we were only looking at 52k. Seeking a change in legislation to add capacity with safe standing seemed to be a bit of diversion. "We've provisions to go up to 62,000 but no idea when like."
Now I'm wondering if this is a clever way around it. If it's a 1:2 ratio that would bring a full 10,000 extra. But what if some times only one end is standing, it could reduce the capacity and offset the idea of not filling a 62,000 stadium. A variable capacity maybe? Would have to be really well thought out. Meis said no to a variable capacity though.
There’s just something about sitting down that destroys the atmosphere at matches. Most people get up from their seat to celebrate a goal, it would be strange not to because you just don’t shout/sing/get excited in a seated position, it’s not natural to....I’ve never understood why fans want to stand up at a football match so this wouldn’t be for me but I totally accept and respect that many would like this.
I've actually installed a concrete post directly in front of my television as to replicate the official matchday experience of Goodison Park. I've also patented a new air freshener that pumps out the scent of weed/urine/farts to really drive home that Gwladys Street aroma. There’s just something about sitting down that destroys the atmosphere at matches. You could’ve heard a pin drop around me the last time I went to goodison. If there’s no atmosphere then I feel like I’m better off watching it at home. At least then you don’t have posts blocking your view.

If other clubs don't have wide enough step treads or enough facilities or exists to cope with safe standing at a high ratio (i.e. nearly double capacity in some sections) then you would steal a march. Going up to 1:1.8 won't be a matter of simply installing rail seating and selling 80% more tickets. A lot of clubs might not be able to do it easily. What you're doing is baking in the possibility from the start. Taken at face value, that's smart.
I am a bit cynical about this though as it comes off the back of a lot of people being unhappy with 52k. Saying "we'll design it to get to 62k if the law changes" is smart, but also nicely convenient. Is there actually any evidence the law will change to allow standing at high ratios? Have the club simply given themselves a way of placating fans about capacity now, whilst at the same time giving themselves a way of passing the buck if the stadium never goes above 52k in the future?
