Its very difficult to compare because the football was so so different, maradona used to get kicked to pieces but he still dragged teams to titles and won everything there is too win, Messi plays in a lot more athletic, tactical times and is given a lot more protection so unless you put each other in each others era its hard to say. However, even being mentioned as the GOAT can't be bad eh.

Bernard is exciting I like exciting players.
Agree on Bernard
I hold my breath every time he gets the ball
I was over for the game yesterday and every time he got the ball you could sense the anticipation in the crowd
Speaking of the crowd , I know the first 30 mins were dire but that’s the quietest I’ve heard Goodison in a long time
Plus they control from the long punt was just ridiculous
Can you imagine if a RS player had done that it would be all over SSN for days
That touch was Messi like in its execution

works two ways that though doesn't it, maradona played when it was just kick people about and messi plays when everyone is more athletic, defenders these days can keep up with the forward players toe to toe back in the day if they missed the kick on you you;d be away from them

messi is sublime, achieved far more than maradonna ever did

Messi is sublime, never said he wasn't, I said it's tough to compare different eras. maradona was sublime, a bit of a tit but sublime, to say anything else is stupidity.

Well that's embarrassing because it's probably the loudest we've been for about 3 years.

Thought his link up with baines v Lincoln was exceptional given than they'd never played together, but baines just does that with midfielders.
Lincoln was Bernard's best game. They are much inferior opposition though and it should be expected that he stands out. If he can bring that performance to the EPL we have a solid player.

He made a point of saying the first 30 mins we were quiet so I don't know what point you're trying to make
Well I wasn't really mate, I was just making a bit of a throwaway comment about how even a quiet atmosphere was actually better than usual, didn't realise the thread police would come for me questioning the veracity of the statement.

Anyway, Bernard gave a bona fide better than average performance yesterday and no mistake.

Barely though.

He's still thinking of what to do with the ball when he gets pressure and has to screen and lay it off.

He might have lit the Russian league up or whatever, but here it's intense.

It must be quite difficult to know what to do when youre playing in a team of statues. If no one shows any interest in running into space, what else can he do but lay it off? A good number of his key passes have been cut backs to Siggy or Gomes, its a good ball but usually theres no one nearer the opposition goal worth passing to.

His shooting is a funny one. I bet he absolutely pings the ball into the net over Finch Farm, just seems to snatch so much at opportunities in matches.

Think he will go onto be like Osman who could catch the odd strike sweetly every now and again. He's definitely got better shooting ability than he has shown thus far.

He looks like he has all the composure in front of goal, then for some reason his legs turn to jelly. Also, it makes me wonder if at times he's scared too shoot, there were a couple of times yesterday when he cut inside and could have let one fly, but he just played it square.
