Don’t know much about him I have to say.
Perfect Gana replacement with much better passing range basically. If the club are set on making Gomes permanent then we need a player like Diawara next to him (i.e., extremely solid defensively but can actually pass), otherwise teams can just target Gomes and know that we have no one else in the midfield who can pass forward. Also Gana is an extremely high-energy player who's about to hit 30 so need to think about successor anyway
He was at the top of the list I made of transfer targets we should go for.

I completely agree that when he plays he frees up the team to play much differently and with a lot of attacking purpose. He’s used as an insurance policy sub to close out games most of the time and think we could provide some solid game time week in and week out.

I also agree with him being the same type of player as Gana and 10x the passer that he is.

Brands hates being told he has no chance to sign people so keep @ijjysmith because I want to see our club thrown into the list of interested clubs.

Would be a good pair but at a cost of 80 million for both an wages can you see it happening? Think Barcelona will want 40 million for Gomes, That’s 80 million for two players, I think we need a RB, CF, CB added to a 6 if Gana goes and we were to sign Gomes your talking 150 million spend from January to summer window.

Personally I wouldn't spend 40 mil on Gomes (sorry, I know he's a forum favourite).

But considering how young Diawara is, then yeah, maybe, that's a lot of value he'll retain. It's so hard to predict money spending these days. I think he'd make us a much, much better side though.

Edit: for the sake of chucking names around, on top of Diawara (dream) and Anguissa, would be interested in us trying to steal Bissouma off Brighton who is another where it looks like a case of a fantastic young player in a move not properly working out. All three would be really interesting as Gana replacements - i.e., can do the defensive workload, but can move the ball up the pitch much much better

Bissouma wouldn’t be a Gana replacement. He’s more like Pogba.

So can’t say I watch much of Barca but one of my friends does and when we signed him on loan he said good luck and good riddance.

Gomes apartently was brought in to replace Busquets but they found out quick that he seriously lacks the discipline and positional awareness to play that role and left them exposed at the back. He then said that he almost always needed to be paired because of it and that he tries to play a number 8 role meaning that Barca felt like they were playing with 10 on the field when he played because he moves like a brick and is a very inconsistent passer.

All that made me worried when there were immediate shouts to sign him permanently. I think that it takes Gomes and Gana together to play the role Marco wants as a number 6 at times and can see what he means by it feels like we’re playing with 10 the whole game.

Well no offense to your friend, but it was a dumb signing. He's not a #6. He could never replace Busquets and for them to try and make him someone like that was stupid. He never played that way at Valencia and it made NO SENSE to have a guy who holds the ball, carries it forward, and links D to offense and play them in that position. Frankly, it made no sense to have him at Barca. Barca wants players that can pass the ball quickly and responsibly. They don't want anyone running with it.

I hear the shouts for a Gana replacement and I would love a true box to box type with elite athleticism. But we can't dump Gana, at least not yet. Even any new player is not going to be able to do what he does very easily. We have to get better players FIRST before we pull that plug. Just watching that game this weekend, it was AMAZING how many times we just passed it right to Leicster - who were bunkered in and looking to quickly counter - and Gana stopped them from advancing. He supports the fullbacks in pushing forward on BOTH sides of the formation.

Now, with a more responsible RB and a Right Sided forward that takes better care of the ball, YES, the team could deal with a more expansive offensive player that can also play some defensive mid. But with Gomes as your other CM, he's not fast and not particularly great positionally.

That being said, if we ever had an elite attacking full back on the right with a better attacking right sided forward, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gomes or SIggy dropped if we bought another CM mid that can tackle as he'd play 2 box to box types. Think Capoue and Doucoure.

Diawara available from Napoli for £35m. Would take that in less than a heartbeat
Appears to be playing time - he's 21 and wants to play more. Reported interested clubs are Wolves, Spurs and Fiorentina so we'd be in with a shout.

Edit: in my fantasy dreamland anyway

Can't sell him to buy, but he's an interesting prospect. Can't see us shelling out 35M for him. Apparently Wolves are after him, but they are nowhere near that valuation.
Tenuous link, never seen the guy play

Would swap Gana for Diawara me.

This is the sort of signing we should be making, its a shame we couldnt just wake up to see that he had signed for us.

Really good player.

This is a good price, i remember saying to you that i thought he wouldnt be interested to come while developing at napoli + €60mil+

If hes available at just €35mil then hopefully brands can get him.
