My one big criticism of him has always been his in-game management, specifically in relation to subs. He leaves them too late to have the desired impact a lot of the time.

Otherwise, I don’t think our recent problems have been down to tactics as much as they have been down to inconsistency at best from our players, and consistently poor efforts from players that we are crying out for replacements for.

Hate to say it but Coleman has gone off a cliff. Walcott is the same shambles I always thought he was, and then Gomes and Richarlison have gone considerably off the boil. We’ve seen this so often under the last 3/4 coaches that it’s hard to imagine it is the fault of Marco alone.

We need to address the key areas of RB, ST, CM and RW by early summer at the latest and then see what he does. Much in the same way that lot went big on their obvious GK and CB problems in order for Klopp to really thrive. If he soils the bed even then, I’ll gladly give him a lift to his next lower-mid table destination myself.

Today I really wanted to push on but we’ve had so many poor results against garbage and our record against anyone is disgusting, their are teams in the championship with better records against the current top 6 than Everton, pathetic club which simply can’t move forward

He needs to stick to a settled back four for a start. Chopping and changing isn't helping. I somewhat agree I am starting to see his weaknesses. On the other hand I think he needs until next season before he is properly judged.

He might do worse than Sam. But you need to remember he’s trying to fix a broken team. It might not happen first go.

I sort of agree with the defending thing. But then we haven’t been able to defend for about 3 years now. More probably.

The issue is can Silva improve what was already happening?

Don’t know. More likely it would be Martínez merry go around again. I don’t expect an instant ground breaking improvement on last year but to do anything worse than that is quite unacceptable.

I thought traditionally new coaches strived to shut up shop and then work forward from that - it seems Marco clearly isn't a disciple of this school of thought

I agree.

I know people say Pickford messing up in the Derby was the reason the the down turn, and it predominantly was, but Silva changing the line up so much for the following game at home to Newcastle had a terrible effect on us.

Worth saying that it’s quite tough to keep a settled team at this time of year. But I see other teams doing it.

I'm getting real tired of this nonsense lie that losing the derby took away all our momentum. Not only have we lost resoundingly to every single decent side we've played this season (oh yeah, a fluke win againt ten men Leicester being the exception), we've actually rolled over for every decent side and let them humiliate us (you can claim we deserved a point in the derby if you want). We've effectively surrendered before the games even started. We've beaten nobody of any note and dropped plenty of points againt average to shockingly poor sides both away and at home. We've been played off the park by West Ham at home ffs. We got knocked out of the league cup againt a Southampton side that'll be lucky to stay up. It's been shocking right from the start and an improved style of play, a couple of nice goals and the odd victory againt sides that anyone with aspirations bigger then staying up would take for granted is not good enough, I repeat NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Hold on mate...

It sounds like you're expecting us to beat teams in the top half of the league during a transitional season.

Are you mad?!?!

Do you think Moyes would have been able to build his squad the way he did after that 17th place finish the way fans are these days, not on your nelly.

The standard went up now. Huge money had been spent. The club was a relegation battler right before Moyes took over. We don’t expect to be 7th at that time. Slowly Moyes changed that.

We were flirting with relegation for years back then and aside from a place we finished we were never in danger of going down that season. In those days it wasnt a terrible season, we have different standards today.

Either way, he was given time and we had a solid few years comfortable best of the rest. So I'm saying we all need to ride this out and start giving managers who aren't Allardyce some time otherwise we are going through the same story every season. That doesn't mean we should not criticise or demand better but lets see if Silva can stamp his identity on a squad built by 4 managers prior.
