This club is a joke

Lads chill, can you not see we have a better squad than in years?

Honestly, it's debatable. I would say that we have probably had the 7th best squad in the country for a number of years, give or take.

The problem is that the gap between us and the top 6 is staggering. We are constantly buying players not good enough for the top 4 despite this being our ambition. It's brutal but our business needs to better if we are to improve. You look at how Spurs developed their squad and it was mostly down to amazing scouting. We are going to need something similar very soon.

Agree entirely.

4 or more goals conceded since Moyes left:

13/14
0-4 Liverpool (a)
1-4 Arsenal (a)

14/15
3-6 Chelsea (h)
2-5 Dynamo Kiev (a)

15/16
3-4 Stoke (h)
0-4 Liverpool (a)

16/17
0-5 Chelsea (a)

17-18
0-4 United (a)
2-5 Arsenal (h)
1-5 Atlanta (a)
1-4 Southampton (a)
0-4 Tottenham (a)
1-5 Arsenal (a)

18/19
2-6 Spurs (h)

Utter disgrace. There’ll be relegation threatened teams without a record like that. The number of 3-0 losses was huge too.

To be fair, we shipped plenty of goals under Moyes at times too. Bolton at home 4-0 was a personal favourite.

It's all about culture.

The culture at Everton doesn't demand success. The culture is one where mediocrity is hailed as progress and progress is hailed as success.

It's a very comfy gig being an everton footballer these days. Huge money with no pressure to succeed. It's a complete mess and no one seems to want to change it.

Spot on Tim

Can you not see that sometimes when you try to improve sometimes it takes a few attempts?
Sure I can see that. How many attempts have we made in the last 25 plus years? And we've never moved forward. You know why? Because our problem wasn't as simple as a bad manager or poor players. Sure we've had both of those things and they didn't help but ultimately they didn't matter and wouldn't of made us good again even if we didn't have those things at the time. Not when defeats like today can just be shrugged off as though it was nothing.

When teams like Crystal Palace can go to Man City and be utterly fearless and get a deserved three points and we go and give such a spineless showing how can we just accept things. Other teams that are far worse then us still get more wins againt "big teams" because they don't just accept defeat before they even take to the field. I'm done pretending that we just have to be patient with the club for just one or two more season and the good times will return. The club I know and love doesn't exist any more as I knew it if we just accept a 6-2 hone defeat againt a side that won't come close to winning the league as anything other then a disgrace that needs to be called such.

So what do you suggest?

It is embarrassingly short of living up to its motto though and has been now for a period measured in decades. It's no wonder people are hacked off.

Defeats of today's Ilk undermine every recovery strategy you can imagine for this club. That match was beamed around the world today. Like the City one before it. Like the streak against Liverpool. The impression of our club that leaves in people's minds matters.

Honestly, why should anyone under the age of 40, particularly overseas, have any reason to think of this club in anything other than pitying terms?

Sadly have to agree. The impact of a defeat to this degree has effects far beyond losing three points. It is damaging to our reputation to a worldwide audience, and possibly to potential commercial partners and sponsors. Nobody apart from fans wants to be associated with that and we have no choice.

What's done is done, and we will lose plenty of games to come, but today just completely knocks the stuffing out of the club and momentum completely stalled and back to recovery mode.

I think we all expected quite a few defeats on the way, but if this is a season of transition, we could have still managed it without conceding six at home

What will it take to actually be a formidable club that competes? We are a laughing stock. throwing money around doesn't matter when the wrong people are spending it. Demand excellence. don't settle for crap.
Today we played a great team. Calvert Lewin header was a good goal and who knows what happens with that kind of momentum? We have no strength in depth yet. Davies is not good enough nor ever will be. Until we have eventually sold all the garbage that was bought by Walsh and Sam don't expect miracles. It will take time to replace that rubbish and its hard to sell them because of the stupid contracts they were given.

The culture at Everton doesn't demand success. The culture is one where mediocrity is hailed as progress and actual progress is hailed as success in itself.

There is a horrible culture surrounding the club right now. I'm glad I don't go the game anymore. It just looks like a miserable experience.

It wasn't all great under Moyes by any means but at least we had an identity the supporters could buy into. We were the plucky underdog who could match anyone at Goodison. We even got the place rocking from time to time. Can't remember the last Everton game I watched where the crowd sounded anything like it used to. Considering we are the probably the 7th best team in the country Goodison is a walk in the park for all of the top 6. It shouldn't be that way.

Right now we are nowhere as a club. Not good enough by a long shot to challenge the big boys, not bad enough to go down. We will continue doing enough to reach 50/60 points every year by beating the poor teams but as a fan there just seems to be such little excitement/memorable moments following this club right now.

So what do you suggest?
I've not asked anyone to do anything but if I could work my will I'd like to see more public dissent at the match for the powers that be at the club and a much more vocal outcry at the state of the club. I doubt it'll ever happen and it might have little effect. I've see far to many supposed protests from our fans go nowhere but I'd still feel better if we at least tried.

doesn't matter about the quality of the players we have, firstly because most of them are grossly over rated, secondly because somehow any player who attaches themselves to this mess invariably turns to [Poor language removed], Pickford,Mina, even Gomes is starting to look crap, instead of building a stadium at Bramley Moore they should build a shopping centre and turn Goodison into what it essentially is, a headquarters for EITC. a couple of emotional videos a season and put some blue lights on the liver buildings and everyone is happy, utterly pointless football club.

For a long time I've felt the players aren't doing enough. How many times have they put in a performance that has surprised us since Martinez's first season? I think more needs to be demanded of them.

I understand what you mean about the people at the top of the club. Considering our status when the Premier League began you cannot help but say we have been run abysmally. They've turned one of the best teams in England into after thought. People will argue but I don't know how Kenwright reflects upon his tenure with anything but shame.

I just chose it as an arbitrary cut off point for ‘recent’ peformances. The 7-1 to Arsenal after securing 4th was ridiculous as was the absolute canings from Benfica and Sporting.

Dare I say, that as a club we expend too much energy on activities that is not linked to performance on the pitch.
Yes, they are hugely beneficial
However, the primary focus of a club should be to win things.
There's a culture of accepting we're just a nice club
