How do you mean though Tim? Because as far as I can see the standards are high and you don't go chopping and changing to 'maintain standards'.

My one criticism is that - like you say - we're poor in both boxes. But, mainly, attacking. So how do you 'improve standards' in that regard? We can't sign anyone, when he drops players their replacements don't play well in the same system. So what's the plan?

The plan has to be to improve the finishing but there's only so much a coach can do. It's down to the players in those situations to make the right calls and they haven't done all season against the big sides. The system is working because we're creating those chances.

I think the answers in attack are only solved in the market. We need a forward but it's not easy because we need an exceptional one.

The issues in defence are largely defending the cross ball. That's up to Silva to improve the organisation and solidity, but also high profile players like Mina to not allow midgets free headers. We also need better balance in midfield. I still think there's a role for Davies alongside Gomes in this team. I really want to see them play together.

Dip in form in terms of results, definitely. I don't know, Leicester, Brighton we were convincing for both halves. Chelsea I'd say the same. You don't have to dominate or control an entire game to play well.

And no, the team are playing how he wants us to play, clearly. So how is he failing in that aspect?

I know you're not saying sack him. I just don't see what reason there is to give him particular stick at the moment. If he was making mental decisions or doing a stubborn Martinez thing of not trying to fix issues etc than fine, but he isn't. We got beat by the best team in the country today, and (as Pep said after the match) we created three chances that we should have taken. We shot ourselves in the foot, again. So Silva needs to fix that by the time the teams roll around to Goodison in the second half of the season.

We're on a poor run results wise but that happens. We're a team that's still in a rebuilding process and we clearly need a few more tweaks, but it'll take time.
Im not bemoaning losing today. Score line was a bit better than I was really anticipating, especially with DeBruyne and Aguero available. We've been poor tho and it doesn't look likely to change.

I'm still very much behind Silva and don't see that changing any time soon. I just think he needs to improve standards. If that means tough decisions so be it. I think Pickford is the type needs told publicly to cut out the daft risks. He's still living off his cult status from Russia. But none of us give a toss about the WC. He's not winning us points. We're not scoring enough and conceding too many. Correcting that is his challenge between now and May.

He did that against the RS. And we seem to lose form after that.

There’s quite a bit of a difference between thinking it’s acceptable in the long run and understanding why we are here right now 6 months after ripping everything up and starting again.
A good point, but in fairness Martinez absolutely bossed his first season implementing a whole new style and belief to our team

But we were playing well up until the derby (and including it) mate.

So while I fully agree that we've been poor in the last three games, it can easily turn again.

I do accept that he needs to do things to change it, you can't just accept being crap, but equally so things could be so much different had we got players who are capable of taking chances.

Not really because he took over an already established top 6/7 team with actual good players, Silva inherited a complete mess of a football club.
I mean.. we finished 8th last season I think and I'm pretty sure our form since Sam arrived suggested we were in the top 6. (If that makes sense).

I know the football was dire. I'm not advocating he was the man to take us forward whatsoever, but that's the facts. He had us playing efficiently and professionally in fairness and we were getting all the results we expected against lower teams at home etc.

He also made the squad work... What I mean by that is he recognised our weaknesses and deployed a strategy and lineup to reduce the impact of such weaknesses as much as he could.

Allardyce was a proper Muppet like. And the games were grim. But they WERE effective.

If we'd managed a few more results of a similar niche this season we'd had an entirely different mood right now even despite dropping so many points to the top 6.

Doesn’t mean anything, we clearly weren’t a top 6 team and we only finished 8th because 5 teams directly below us were so bad they were incapable of getting more than the pathetic total of 49 points. In terms of quality we were no better than any team above about 14th.

With that in mind the exact same can be said for this season right now though. Except teams around us tend to pick up the odd win against these top 6 but we very rarely do so
