Am I the only one who thinks a 3-5-2 would really suit us against the top 6 sides?

We have two attacking full backs who can sit back when required but also get forward. The 3 midfielders of Gomes, Gana and Sig, 3 monster Centre Halves in Keane, Mina and Zouma who will be big dangers from set pieces but also help us out defending from them, and Richarlison will get some help up top.

Pickford

Keane Mina Zouma

Coleman Gana Gomes Digne

Siggurdsson

Walcott Richarlison

I even think it could suit us as a default style going forward.
Coleman wouldn’t have the legs to get up and down the line all day and I don’t think Digne has the pace
That system would suit JJK better than Coleman but even he wouldn’t be good enough
Converted wingers who have pace , rather than full backs seem to make the better wing backs
You also need to have good cover in both wing back positions as they do a lot of work and are liable to tire more and pick up injuries
You also need at least 1 but preferably 2 quality CB as cover unless you intend chopping and changing your formation depending on injuries / suspensions

His coaching is actually improving players. Gueye Keane Pickford are unrecognisable from last season.
I'm sure his coaching has definitely helped, but I said over and over again last year that our players were nowhere near as bad as many people wanted to make out. We lacked balance and that affected everybody's performances, Keane struggled without pace next to him, Gana was being asked to do too much on the ball, we lacked pace up top so it was difficult for anyone to create anything. The biggest positive for me this summer/season is that Brands and Silva basically identified all of our weak areas and addressed them. It's the first time we've recruited like that for years, and it's made an enormous difference.

Thought we carried a lot more threat than previous years, just lacking a touch of quality with the final pass/touch.

I dont even necessarily think he was playing for the draw, I think it enabled Coleman and Digne to push further forward.

Agree on your first point
Walcott and especially Bernard had 2 gilt edged chances to score
Walcott first touch was poor and Bernard , well no one knows what happened there
If we had scored first they would have had to come at us leaving space in behind for us to counter attack into
We definitely need a proven finisher

It makes sense on paper but really is an awful, defeatist system to play, and support.
Had to sit through the 2014 WC watching Van Gaal debase everything Oranje.
He 'masterminded' a run to win the 3rd place play off.
But it was based on believing the side was not good enough to compete any other way.
A side that had Robben, Van Persie, Sneijder and a few other decent players.
Won in the quarters to a scoreless draw. Lost in the semis to a scoreless draw.
75% of the time it was keeping the ball off the opposition by circulating through the backs and GK.
He made a mockery of Dutch football. Van Gaal's Man U but worse.
Unfortunately Cahill's belter wasn't enough to put me beloved Oranje to the sword and stop the nightmare.

It can work in a cup competition, but not in the League.
Against the Top 6 it would be a 5-3-2.
All they have to do is use quality players to attack the corner areas, push back Coleman or Digne and draw out a CB.
Do this at pace and pick the gaps.
The only response is to park the bus or keep possession by circulating deep.
And we don't have one of the best best dribblers and strikers of a generation (Robben and RVP) to be a threat.

Silva will never play this way. You can't effectively press high.
A much better system would be a 3-4-3.
But we don't have the players for that...yet.

I think he’s a far better keeper now than he was last season yes. It wasn’t difficult for him to be our player of the season last year but he didn’t look like he was one of the better keepers in the prem. His form in the last few games though has been exceptional.
I would agree he's gone up a level but he was still brilliant last year. 3rd best keeper in the league atm in my book. Lloris and Alisson looking like they have a mistake in them whereas Pickford looks imperious at the moment.

seemed to lose his footing and rushed an attempt to pull it back
