James McCarthy

It is hard to see a future for him at Everton. We have moved on since this latest injury. He was struggling before that. I feel he has had too many serious injuries and too long off to make it back to the standard we are aspiring to. It is a shame but he will still have a few years in lower reaches of the Premiership or in the Championship.
I don't agree with that really.
There is no doubt we have moved on in other areas of the field... particularly from an offensive point of view and in defense.
But, from a ball winning tough tackling central midfielder we have the same options as last season and McCarthy in my opinion when fit is as good as anybody around and much better than Schneiderlin who seems to be falling away from the first eleven again.

I don't think it is IF he can stay fit (and that's the issue).

Silva likes players who press and can move the ball quickly. McCarthy is very apt at both of those.

So IF he stays fit and plays well when he's involved, I think there could definitely be a future. Depending how Gomes does, it means we could realistically move Schneiderlin out in January and be just fine.

Eh, it would be nice if he moved it forwards, but he certainly shows more initiative than Schneiderlin. Still not sure either are wonderful options, but he's probably better than Morgan. I can't say I wouldn't mind a bit of energy coming off the bench and some guts. McCarthy is not shy about imposing himself in matches, that's for sure. Just would like a better athlete at this point.

Less than 10 months ago, poor you having to wait.

I think people have forgotten just how good he was in his first season alongside Barry. Now it may be that Barry was a large contributor to how good he was, but for anyone to say he was crap in that first season is suffering from some sort of insanity? I am not at all confident that the lad will ever reach those levels again due to his fitness record, but that is hardly his fault. I really rate Gana, but JMc was very good in that first season, very good indeed.

I’ve always liked him. Before his injury I thought him and Gueye would dominate opposition midfields with their hard running and ball winning. Maybe they could now we have better forward players for them to give it to but I’m not convinced or sure where he’ll fit in.

I think that actually the problem is exactly the opposite: too many people are forgetting that McCarthy's first season here was his ONLY good season here. He's missed something like 80 matches now due to his utterly appalling injury record.

If he can get fit in time for the January window we should be loaning him out to a Villa or similar, with a view to getting rid in the summer. Having said that, I bet he won't be fit by January.

Really sorry he suffered that bad injury, as he seems a decent bloke.

This aside, can't see him playing for Everton again.

We've moved on, and he now needs to be playing regular football.

Season long loan to Sunderland come January?

For me, he was just coming good again under RK when he was sacked. Was also playing very well when he done his leg. did not suit the martinez style of play and consequently disappeared while he was boss.

I reckon he could still have a part to play.
