i think it was less about resting payers and more about giving other a players a ;chance' most clubs do it, i dont agree with it mind...
To be honest he has to look at his squad, when we play in the prem yes play the best team week in week out, this cup is a chance to see if some of the second team are good enough and he has seen they are not. he wont see that with just training alone, he has given certain players game time and now he needs to look if they need to move on
Not sure about that. Stekelenburg is not realistic competition for Pickford, and Baines and Schneiderlin have played enough games for him to know all about them. He changed it all round to rest people.

If you really want to see what someone like Dowell can do, you put him into a side where all the rest of the players are the same and you ask him to take on someone's role. You don't learn anything about players capabilities by shoehorning them into a side full of players with no understanding of eachother's games, and where everybody feels the need to impress more than their colleague in order to bump themselves up the order.

The list of those he needs to move on is longer than those he needs to keep and that is a worry

Baines? he did nothing wrong last night and he is excellent back up at the moment for Digne

He should of started his best team then. If he doesn't know by now that our fringe players are garbage then he's a moron.

They wasn't garbage though. Lookman had a great game and was our most dangerous threat first half. It was down to how he has them playing. Look good passing it forward but no end product and immature defending at the other end. He picked a team that was more than capable of winning, Soton had a second string side out and we should've beat them with what we had.

I am starting to get the feeling he's another Martinez

This is just a flight of fancy. He's playing games. He's not involved here. And if he was he was referring to off-field matters anyway.

Let me remind you: we're SEVEN games into the Silva era - a man brought in to clean up the muck bequeathed to him.

Does it not remind you of Martinez? Ignorant to the defensive frailties? We don't look solid at the back and every corner we concede, I dread. We are always going to concede and Silva won't address that as long as we score more at the other end.

We haven't conceded a goal from a corner in 4 games now mate. So improvement on that.

We do look suspect from open play still though.
