We finished 7th last year. We’ve just spent a small fortune. The club will expect top 6 as a minimum this season.

Silva hasn’t started well and needs to buck up his ideas.

Our best PL season was under Moyes, he was the one who got us 4th, lets not re-write history, just a poor effort to deflect from how bad Silva is doing

I’m totally behind Silva at this point.

Perhaps last night was part of a learning curve for him at a club our size?

I do think he should’ve gone with the strongest team though, and we really should’ve pushed for this cup but it’s done now.

I think being drawn away to an in-form Leicester prior to this match has helped Silva get off the hook with this loss. I dont think too many people saw a QF berth within rr=each had we progressed.

Bad loss, but we have our set agenda for season 2018/18: top ten, get a style of play in place and use the next two windows to get rid of trash and buy in quality.

Job done if that happens.

I mean we only beat them 2-1 with our first team out, so can we really say that swapping out £100m worth of international footballers for a couple of kids and someone making their first start for about 6 months left us with a good chance of winning? Our performance in the first half tells me that the team we picked absolutely wasn't good enough to beat Southampton.

If there'd been ET there last night there was only one winner. We had our best out on the pitch but ran out of time to make it pay off. The timing of the introduction of Richarlison and Walcott could be questioned but not much else. We suffered with the LC going direct to pens now.

As frustrating as it is it will take time, squads crap, needs a few transfer windows to address it no matter who the manager is. Saying that Marco doesn't help himself at times though

Clearing up the mess of Koemageddon is an uphill task. What's needed is stability and slow but sure progress.

Trophies will, unfortunately, have to wait.

Why do the minority think he's going to accept merely finishing top 10 will be enough? It won't be and it shouldn't be.

That pattern is now over. Even that carpetbagging fool can see the cycle needs to be broken and we have to hand a manager two seasons minimum to get it together. Quite rightly the hierarchy (as long as we finish top ten) will stick with Silva.

The kneejerkers have had their day: they now just need to STFU and let things develop.

Dave, with respect, you don't know what Moshiri is thinking. Even Usmanov is recognising that we're very far from where we should be. Do you not think that comment is as a result of them two talking?

I wouldn't say it's a knee jerk reaction that a manager with a very, very poor record in the English game is now coming under increased scrutiny.

players who finished 7,8th half asleep are out of the Club or old..it's a new team really and FS is not a manager to measure others with. He would finnish 8th with grimsby and real madrid

It will be if we are completely changing the team, i dont know why you cant understand transition as an acceptable reason...look at klopp

So was it acceptable for Klopp to finish 10th? No.
