Well there’s been absolutely nothing else ever heard on this so you’re accusing a player of being on the booze based on hearsay from a former team mate? Sounds even lazier than me saying Gueye is lazy based on watching his performances for 2 and a bit seasons.
He is Scottish and the jocks love the booze so it's believable

Haha are you messing? It's been a rumour going round for years, ever since he kept being out for months at a time for seemingly innocuous injuries, and was pictured out and about with his mates and going to Celtic games when he supposedly couldn't walk. I was told by a person I know reasonably well who had no reason to lie to me, and who used to play for Everton alongside him. I'm happy to take his information at face value rather than assume it's not true just because you've never heard it before.

Just to be clear, there was no suggestion that he's an alcoholic or anything like that, just that there was a feeling at the club that he didn't take very good care of himself and wasn't always as keen as he could be to get himself fit.

If it was true It’s a bit strange why as soon as he has been fit Martinez Koeman and Unsworth have all played him even when not fully fit. Also strange how we’ve never sold him despite his apparent unwillingness to look after himself. Is he just that good we’ll put up with him? Doubt it.

Mate of mine met him in town a while back and said he was just drinking water.

He was with Robles, Barkley and Stones I think so this a long time ago.
Fair enough I probably shouldn't have put it across as a fact because it was just something I was told. Obviously I believe it but that doesn't mean it's true in fairness.

The exact words were 'out in Glasgow with his crew' so he may not even have meant drinking, but that was what I took it to mean. Either way, the inference in the context of the conversation was that he wasn't doing everything he could to get fit, and that it wasn't a surprise. The suggestion was that our - as fans - dismay at him being picked by Ireland when unfit was directed at the wrong people, and that he was theoretically 'fit' for a long time, but we wouldn't pick him because he wasn't physically fit, not because he was technically injured. That would answer your question, in that he wasn't necessarily picked 'as soon as he was fit', he was picked when the managers got fed up of waiting for him to be fully fit and pitched him in anyway to see if he could do any better. We also clearly tried to sell him but the Sissoko deal fell through, and we had to pretend we'd changed our mind and kept him. We've not been able to sell him since because he's never been fit.

«Hard work beats talent». McC is the type of terrier our midfield needs. Gana is good, but he doesnt have the size to really push players around. McC is good at terrorizing teams.
We need a player who can pick up a ball, carry it, then play a clever ball to someone who can score.

The fact that people want to keep a player who spends more time injured than actually playing is baffling.

Yes, we do. We also need better at other positions, and in some games and under some tactics, that player can be McCarthy.
If he returns the same player, this is a way worse injury than he’s used to.

That a bit of a contradiction really, how can you sell a player whose always injured.

There is a bit of a swipe left or swipe right culture on here lately with lots of players, they either need to stay or got rid off, black and white thinking is never good, Tinder has a lot to answer for.

Cos no one will be willing to pay for a highly injury proned player. He has not been fit for what? 3 years?
