The council where on the side of the residents and not LFC on this issue tbf to them.

Planning permission was/is inevitable, just LFCs poor treatment of the local community for numerous years has held them back.

Yep, the area of Anfield is typical inner-city dross that will soon become even more of a 3rd-tier area once BMD is built. The RS will eventually pay the price for sticking to that area of Liverpool, because a brand new, state of the art waterfront stadium will have such a bigger pull factor.
 
I can't imagine a new build on the docks will have any trouble getting council permission for a number of non-football events, and in fact that'll likely be baked into the planning permission from he outset. If the club are smart they'll build the business case for the stadium being multi-use, make noises about it being less financially viable as a project if the council limits its events (just to be on the safe side). And anyway, I can't see the council wanting to do that anyway - they'll likely have 280 million reasons themselves for wanting it to work and be as profitable as possible.

Whilst there's obviously hurdles to getting the stadium built, I can't see this being one of them. Everyone who's spoken about it, from the architect to the club to the Mayor to the people behind Liverpool Waters has spoken about it in terms of it being more than just a football stadium - a catalyst for attracting visitors, regeneration etc

And there's no 'change of use' here like with Anfield, everyone knows the plan. It's getting it financed and built that's the (big) issue.

Exactly. The biggest acts choose Manchester because their arena is far bigger than ours. We're left with the second division acts a lot of people aren't bothered with. That's why we need a bigger indoor arena to attract the biggest names. The type of open air concerts that take place at Lancashire Cricket Club and The Hemorrhoids cannot be held in the MEN. Anfield and Aintree should be competing with those Manchester venues now. And of course, BMD should be too a couple of years down the line.

I would guess geography plays a part too. Like the single biggest PITA for a massive arena tour is the shifting, assembling, taking down, then shifting again, the "show" from venue to venue. So if a band has the audience to fill MEN 3 nights on the trot, why bother moving it to Liverpool for another few nights? Just play 2 more in Manchester.

Best make sure, then, we build a really top class indoor arena holding 20,000, preferably down by the BMD. That way, they'd play Liverpool for 3 nights and give Manchester a miss.

That is an absolutoey disgraceful decision. I'm leaving aside football alleginaces here, btw. But Anderson and the rest of that council have stabbed those people in the back. They've basically handed Liverpool carte blanche to do what it wants and the well being of local residents has been sacrificed. They are an appalling bunch of gets on that council. How dare they call themselves Labour Party members. They've just stood up for a billion pound company against residents who just want as quiet a life as possible under the circumstances they find themselves in. Anderson is a 'kin snake.

Time and time again LFC and LCC have made and broken promises to the area around the ground. Everytime a planning application goes in it's supposed to revitalise the area but nothing changes

Even worse than LFC, those councilors are there to protect their citizens but they make the residents lives around Anfield a living hell.

Would they have it next door to them? Would they bollocks. 'kin scumbags. Anderson the very worst of that lot.

Whilst I agree with your sentiments it is important to realise the importance of the RS to the city.
The bars and restaurants which thrive in our city and help make it a desirable place to visit or live, rely heavily on the roughly bi monthly invasion of mutants that accompany their home games.

People living around both grounds make money aswell.
I know plenty of people who rent parking spaces on people's drives who live near the stadium for around £100 a season.
