Match Thread Everton v Southampton

Good half, but not a great half.
They have still had good chances that a better team might have put away.

We have looked very slick going forward, but can not say we have missed any other chances, but took the 2 goals well.

Southampton remind me very much of Koemans Everton: Useless and give away fouls for fun.

Going to be hard keeping Richy injury free this season. Just too good for them which is why he was the most fouled player last season. Referees need to give him more protection. They have definitely been targetting him again today, the blurts.

I think thats why we brought in one more player than we needed up top in Bernard. Between him and Lookman, theres plenty of talent to spell him for games, so he can take a 2 week break from playing, and from getting hacked down. He was great to start last season but he played too many games, so I think we are smart enough to rest him more.

When did Southhampton become so dirty? When they started getting dominated and cant take the humiliation, a good sign for us.

Great first half. Southampton are all over the place, but it's great to see us putting a fight, pressing and I think we're really well organised. You can see what they're doing on a training ground and that they're enjoying this football.

Defence looks suspect at times, but I think it will improve once Mina and Digne are introduced and players get to know the system and each other better.
