Flying horses and pistols with rocket propelled grenades?

Well, "gameplay boosts" and "cash bonuses" already confirmed, as well as story missions locked behind pre-order paywalls.

They can't help themselves. It's going to be one of those games that at its' core is amazing but is totally ruined because when you buy it you don't own the full game.

There needs to be a shedload of regulation enforced on these companies for the purpose of consumer protection. How Ultimate Team isn't illegal for example is honestly beyond me.

Ultimate team is essentially gambling. I haven’t bought a FIFA since it was implemented. And the day one DLC reminds me of Dragon Age 2. EA literally took out a chunk of the finished game and sold it in the digital marketplaces. Horrible practice and horrible companies... It’s a shame because the GTA’s and Red Dead’s were so great

seems to always take ages for the government to catch up with these things, there will have to have to be a load of young kids/parents lives ruined for the press to pick up on it and then government to bring in some half-baked legislation

Lol at the game being completely ruined because of some minor things you get with a more expensive version.

Who cares, just buy the normal version. Its only a mission, some cosmetic bs and the ability to rank up faster that you miss out on and most of it’s in single player as well ! If some weirdos want to spend more money on some minor stuff like that then who cares, let them... it will make zero difference to my experience.

Gamers are such cryasses/drama queens

Well, thats a bit of a generalisation.

How's about, by reinforcing this behavior, it proves to the games companies that it is ok to break games up and sell them to you bit by bit. So now you are paying $60 3 different times to get the whole game. You are seeing it more and more, and unless the industry is told to stop in a convincing manner, it will keep taking everything it can get.

Here in NZ, a new release game is already $120. And if you are now expected to purchase an add-on just to complete the main quest/story? Yeah....thats pretty crappy.

Lets take an actual look at this.

You can spend an extra £40 on the game if you want

- 1 extra mission (out of 100's) which obviously won't be critical to the main story.
- 1 extra hideout
- a special type of horse
- a special outfit
- quicker ability to rank up
- instant access to three weapons that are still possible to purchase in the normal priced game

How is that ruining a game ? All its doing is taking advantage of dumb or rich people who are sad enough to think that stuff is worth a damn. None of that stuff will in anyway ruin the game for other people who don't have it.

I mean cmon, rockstar missions are all the friggin same anyway, people seriously think they are going to miss out on some amazing game defining moment because they can't do one side mission ?

Yeah that would be crappy, but thats not the actual reality is it...

I wouldn't want the exclusive content for the single player. It would feel like cheating if I was getting gameplay boosts, discounts and free guns - It'd take something away from the experience for me personally.

Except it will be in the very new future. EA has done it already.

They can't spoil the single player game. That'll do me.

Bit naive mate. They're already advertising "gameplay bonuses" as I say as a pre-order bonus - those bonuses will be available to buy in-game too.

So you'll have constant mini advertisements for stuff while playing a game you paid full price for, like how Shadow of Mordor had in-game orc lootboxes.

I caught on to what to do with these games a long time ago; have patience, don't buy them on release, get the "Game of the Year" edition 9 months later which has everything included. The only games I buy new now are for the Switch, as they release full games and add on quality DLC at most a bit later, instead of being pestered every five seconds to hand over more money like it's a free-to-play mobile game instead of a £60 title.

All power to you if you can ignore the crap that RDR2 will throw in your face and I hope you enjoy the game - I personally won't be giving Zelnick and co. my money on release though.

Ive genuinely never played a game where im constantly pestered to buy DLC let alone game bonuses, literally never... worst I can remember is some adverts for them during loading screens. The horror...

Im sure its everywhere in free to play games but that's fair enough imo.

Except it will be in the very new future. EA has done it already.

Correct me if im wrong but they tried it with one game and got terrible feedback and haven't done it since, lots of studios then came out and said they'd never go down this route.

Im not buying into the idea that in the near future every game will require you to pay them extra money to complete the final level... for proper sized DLC maybe, but for just the final mission at the very end of a game ? You've got no chance of convincing me that will ever be the standard, customer backlash would be huge and as mentioned earlier numerous studios have already said they would never go down this route.
