Give lad a chance. He played under 4 different coaches in his very short career and it hinder his improvement for sure. I’m pretty sure he will come good when there will be some stability in the club and a clear system of play.

Don’t think he’ll ever be a world beater but he could be a decent League player like Osman was.
 
The comments about Tom really do make me dispair. Here we have a good young talented lad with bags of potential who's had one full season in the prem.

Didn't have the best of seasons has to be said but only pickford did last season. Yet this lad is labled as "crap" or "championship standard".

Absolute joke how our fans treat our youth. How about getting behind the lad and showing him some support as opposed to ripping him a new one. How about when he trys something that doesn't come off we give the lad some positivity instead of groaning.

No wonder Barkley couldn't wait to get away from this place. I honestly believe that we as a fan base are probably the worst in the premier league for giving youngsters support. Honestly makes me sad.

Massively underrated.

It's insane how many of our supporters bemoan crabs in midfield, but constantly bemoan Tom Davies for attempting a risky pass.

He'll come good, I've not seen that much natural talent in a player for us in many years.
 

Was average last year season at best but I put it down to the managers instructions, I am sure Sam just told him to run after the ball and don’t worry about a position.

I think with some instructions and coaching in one actual position and we might see him come back to the form of his first season.

This is a big season for him, he’s had enough minutes and games so can’t be labelled as coming through anymore like Dowell, Kenny etc.

For a while under Koeman we had a nicely balanced midfield diamond with Schneiderlin holding Gueye and Davies either side of him pushing on and Barkley coming in off the wing at the tip of it. Davies had options to pass too and the one touch stuff was great. What we’ve seen since is him stranded in unbalanced midfields having to run huge distances to make tackles, picking the ball up on the edge of his area with nothing on. No midfielder could thrive in that. Zidane was nothing at 20 yet we want Davies to be Zidane already. He will receive plenty of game time again this season but hopefully in a less pressured situation with a better balanced team around him.

I still think people overlook how much he contributed to those home wins that got us 8th last season. Somehow Rooney and Gueye hoovered up all the praise for that and Tom got none of it.

Neither can he though, he can't pass a parcel let alone a football. He has been way overhyped since his first season. I don't doubt there are flashes of a half decent player in there somewhere but i think he needs a fair bit of coaching before we will see it, he doesn't seem to have a proper position at the moment. What exactly is he? he's not a no10, he's not a box to box player, he's not a defensive midfielder. Id like to see him coached into someone who can sit in the centre circle and spray the ball about the pitch, but he needs to stop holding on to the ball for so long and improve his reaction times in terms of thinking and most of all his passing ability.

Why would you want people to clap along on an Internet forum blindly if they don't rate the lad? We're here to give opinions, just because you rate Davies due to him being young doesn't mean everyone else has to.

This is spot on. People wanting to praise him because he tries to pass forward but it never comes off. Last season was horrendous for him. The biggest praise I can give him is that he was energetic when we played at home.
