Messi "best player of all time"

dont remeber messi scoring much in the knockout stages of 2014 yanno

That might have been because they scored 2 in the 3 knock-out stage games - Di Maria and Higuain. Messi scored the pen in the shoot-out that put them in the final.
They scored 6 in the Groups. He got 4 - other was an own goal, the other after was a Rojo goal.
They then had 10 shots in the final, only two on target - Biglia (a Defensive Midfielder) and Aguero.

Never had support in his international career since becoming the 'main man'.

score a few in some easy group games, then relied on higuain and di maria, and didn't even create anything, pretty poor, no points for pens either

lowest amount of ground covered tonight by anyone, disgraceful in all honesty

Okay. I don't fully agree its as simple as that in regards to Ronaldo. His team mates aren't donkeys. Neither are Messis despite people putting down them and his coaches when excusing him. He was decent in the tournament two years. I don't think he was exceptional. He has not set the international stage alight and has had many many weak games in qualification. Likewise Messi has been nowhere near as bad for Arg as seems to be repeated.

Wouldnt you agree though that simply when it comes to what they do within the 90 minutes each week with a football that Messi ability wise is a couple levels above?

Messi is probably more talented on the ball, but talent alone doesnt win trophies.

You're so much better than this.

This is part of the problem though, and I know you want to run him down.

Football is not just goals. He was at the centre of everything, even if he didn't score much.

He had a very good tournament 4 years ago....not good enough for player of the tournament....but very good.
he had a good group stage, didn't see him grab a game by the scruff of the neck after, as you say wasn't player of the tournament (Rodriguez) nor MOTM in the final (Schweinsteiger), that might seem harsh but this is the level we are talking about, the greatest ever, in those situations, in tonights situation I expect more, and he sulks

To be fair to him that Argentine side are awful. The 86 side has some very decent ballers alongside Maradona. Messi was outstanding at the last world cup - he more or less singlehandedly got them to the final.

Ronaldo is so different to Messi that they really can't be compared. Ronaldo seems to love the responsibility of leading Portugal, Messi is the complete opposite. He enjoys being another part of the cog in the wheel at Barcelona. Ronaldo wants to be the shift lever (totally unsure of the metaphor here).

In all honesty just offering an opinion, not the first time I've been really disappointed in his attitude, he will got down as an ATG of course, but for all the criticism of Ronaldo, we saw tonight Messi is the diva, and he let a nation down with that abject effort

I'd say the evidence for one player being a diva over the other would definitely stack up higher for Cronaldo.

Anyways. I'm pretty gutted. I would love him to lift that trophy.

I still think if Pekerman had put him in against Germany in 2006 that he would already have won the trophy as a teenager.

He is a couple of levels above Ronaldo david. You just have to watch them both play the game week in and week out.
Lol.

His style of football is your choice not mine. Ronaldo is a much more thrilling (and productive and successful) player.

...thank goodness you didn't challenge the Maradona v Messi unreal comparison, now that would have been embarrassing.

I think you are buying into a convenient media myth if you consider Ronaldo a diva

Nah. I watch his games. He seems like a bit of a diva during many games. So it doesn't surprise me he is considered a diva.

The whole not celebrating with team mates as if not interested, then celebrating a tap in like crazy when already 4 up. I've seen that too many times.
