If you're going to give free kicks and penalties for contact on the follow through then you may as well just do what Platini had as his objective when in power at FIFA -- ban tackling!

And the fact that contributors on here are split on whether it was a penalty or not illustrates the fact that it should never have been referred to VAR or if it was then it was not clearcut enough for the ref to change the outcome. Technology should ONLY be used on issues when there is no subjectivity over a decision.

It was the same tackle. I player can’t suddenly just stop forward momentum when making a tackle. Not a pen for me.

It’s not the follow through that’s the issue so much, though. I love a crunching tackle. It’s the fact that he hasn’t won enough of the ball to take it off Griezmann when he caught him with the follow through, and Griezmann touched the ball again before the contact. For me, if you take someone out you have to WIN the ball. Not just scrape it with a stud.

I’m not saying it’s nailed on or anything. He definitely made contact with the ball. I just think Griezmann is potentially getting there for a shot when he is taken out.

Thought i remember but was months ago,them saying that they could show the incident on screen,but after it was decided by Ref if a pen or not,if its changed since then, i wouldnt know,and if they are even showing replays on screens in ground for world cup ?

Should just leave football as it is. We've dealt with decisions going against us forever and we get over it. For me its part of football decisions being wrong etc..

A member of staff from each team should sit in the office with the video refs.
Allowed one challenge per game to a decision.
Similar to nfl and tennis system.
Win the challenge, you keep it, lose it, you're done.
The goal line tech stays as it is.

Only my opinion, but its fair and the system as it is clearly isn't working well.

Agree with this otherwise it could be stop start too much and players constantly asking for things to be checked.

You are getting into a grey area there though as then how much of the ball do you have to touch for it to be a fair tackle? He hasn’t took him out though. The follow through as slightly touched him. Thought it was very harsh to go back and give because it wasn’t obvious.

I don't know how you think Greasy is getting a shot off there. The ball ricochets of his shin. He's not in the act of shooting he's clearly trying to control the ball. Risden has nowhere else to go.
