Another abysmal start, but this year there's no injuries or players demanding transfers etc to use as excuses. I fully appreciate everything Moyes has done for us, you can't argue with it, but you'd really have to give him 1/10 for how he's handled the start of the season.

It came to a head yesterday when the game instantly and completely swung in the favour of Wolves after he took Beckford off and replaced him with that grandad. Before that they could easily have gone a month without scoring. The worst thing was I KNEW that was the change he was gonna make, and I KNEW that would be the effect it would have.

Then there's the picking a centre back in midfield when we've got Rodwell & Fellaini sitting there, and seleting Hibbert ahead of Coleman is just simply beyond all patience.

The Yak is clearly being shown the door, but we've got no explanation as to why or how it's going to take us forward. I'm a firm believer that he just hasn't been given a crack of whip since he came back from injury, all he's really had are odds and end substitute appearances, and even then his all round game and link up play has still been vastly superior to the woeful Saha's.

Good post mate. The Yak situation is an utter ******* disgrace. Basically Moyes is saying he wont play him because he's in cotton wool ready for sale. I doubt very much he's any less conditioned than Saha to take to the pitch. As for a like for like change instead of giving Beckford a partner to finish Wolves off, words fail me.

The set up Moyes chose yesterday was the main problem. It sent all the wrong messages. Way to defensive. We should have been up and at Wolves to tear them apart. In the first half they were sitting there expecting it. Yet all we could manage was a long range shots and hopeful punts.

WHY are we not playing two up front?
WHY are we playing paceless clueless Hibbert when we have Coleman's pacy attack minded skill languishing on the bench?

Whenever Neville is injured Moyes always seems to conspire to make the team as pants as possible. wtf?

I don't think it's the not playing 2 up front. Football has changed and it changed years ago. Most teams go with 1 striker, with support players.

Agree with this 100%, but are we allowed to criticise the manager this early on in the season mate? I would say we should be, but be prepared to upset some people.

i agree the 4-5-1 can be attack minded, the 'wide' support players in a system can really expand play, or the support striker can push forward too.

<gets back on PES!!!!>

Im agreeing with everyone here, bar the Hibbert comment. Looked the goods flying down that wing....

Once in a blue moon though isn't it. Or you could also say it's a little late in the day for Hibbert to start showing what Coleman has already shown.

Hibbert over Coleman just symbolises the lack if invention and bottle by the manager.

The point i made about the Pienaar situation looks like it could have a bearing on the squad, again just before our next game a comment comes up how he is happy to sign if the right contract is there - well, obviously it's not.

It's not rocket science -

BK:here is a big pile of money

SP : its not big enough.

BK : Goodbye

What? Coleman has shown that he can defend better than Hibbert?

I must have missed that match.

I understand where you, and a lot of Evertonians are coming from. I really do.

For me, the first priority of a defender is to defend. I'd like to see Coleman play though. The Huddersfield match is perfect for him to start and I'd have to questions Moyes if he isn't in the lineup for this one.

Well coming from an American who's popular game of Basketball is all about attack is the best form of defence, or have I misheard that.

Back to footy though, and relatively speaking the best fullbacks in the world are not necessarily the best defenders in their position. Roberto Carlos and Dani Alves are two examples of excellent attacking fullbacks who can't really defend, but then if they are good enough, do they need to be that good a defender?

If your an attacking fullback you are pegging back their wingers, but if your a defensive fullback then your just inviting them to attack you.

See what I mean?

This is right. These days teams usually one have 1 striker, and we have 2 centre backs. This leaves 1 centre back free at all times providing the midfield is doing it's job and numbering up against its fellow midfielders. By having the free centre back available to defend attacking wingers, our full backs can be used to attack themselves.
