Arsenal do seem to be a bit of a wild card for the managers position. I would have been surprised last week if Fonseca went there but not so now.
I read a few articles over the weekend suggesting there is a strong element within their board that wants to hire a coach rather than a manager, and develop a coach under their existing structure, rather than hiring a more established name. Hence, the links with Arteta, Buvac, and Vieira also. Of course it could be another way of saying they have been rebuffed by their primary targets.
I'd prefer Fonseca over Silva but I have reconciled myself with Silva's stint at Watford, and we could do worse. We are not coming at this from a position of strength. Both of them seem "modern" progressive managers, and offer the prospect of better football, it at least seems reasonable to assume in that context that we will appoint someone radically different in approach to Allardyce.
