I still find it hard to believe that the only manager available to us was a guy who had 'technically' retired from the game, there must have been other options.

Just highlights the incompetence of the board to be fair.

Took an eternity to identify Silva, tried and failed to get him.

Interviewed Fat Sam, said no to him. Then went cap in hand back to him and probably paid through the nose in the process.

Absolutely zero confidence in them identifying a successor and having a clue how to spell contingency never mind execute it.

I wonder what we can do about it, if anything, i really can see us next season being equally as pathetic as this one, there is no plan and even if there was no one at the club seems capable of doing anything to a standard fitting of a top Premier League team. With all the money coming into the game only needs a few of the small clubs to be run right and we will be even further adrift

The more you think about it, the more Sam allardyce proves to be a terrible decision in a long list of terrible decisions by the people running the football side of our club.

Forget we hired Sam specifically, could have been anyone. So imagine this;

We approach an out of work/retired manager, us approaching them being the key point here. So we approach them and offer them their biggest contract of their career, after spending 200 million on players over 12 months. You tell them you are spending a further 47 million on attackers in the January window. You offer them a side that contains players such as Ajax captain , Wayne Rooney, Morgan schneiderlin, Jordan pickford , the Wales captain, all to name a few.

And you tell them the only thing they have to do is keep the club in the league. No cup aims , no European football challenge, no just keep the club up and at the end of the season you will probably release them and give them a huge lump sum as a thank you.

Why would any manager actually try to do the bare minimum in that scenario? Why would any manager genuinely try to do anything more than the minimum points needed and that's it? They know they are gone either way and the quality of the players should earn points by themselves so why try to develop anything or achieve anything?

Great post.

Has anyone run the numbers?what were we willing to pay compo wise for silva when at Watford?
What we ended up paying for whopper Sam?
How much it would cost to get rid of whopper Sam
Basically if we did it now would it be cheaper than when we went chasing silva before because we wouldn’t have to pay his compo?(Shouldn’t matter what it costs to move on this manager and get anyone that is more positive in everything they bring)

He must think he’s sorted out the mess their off to the Middle East next week! Either that or a freebie jaunt before he gets slung out the door

Oh this is the now annual “reward” for exiting the Cup early.

No need to turn out on a chilly afternoon at Carlisle or Oldham....instead it is a luxury trip to tropical climes for “warm weather training”.

We should hope there is a clause in his contract that ensures we pay little / no compo for firing him if he's back in employment within x months.

Not to worry, our last result was only a Blip........
What’s worrying mate is he is trying to groom us all into thinking he is doing a good job with our home form etc.

We have been so lucky in the games that we have won or drew, I don’t want an Everton manager saying it is just a blip after we have been smashed by an average Arsenal side 5-1 should have been 8 or 9
