2017/18 Morgan Schneiderlin

If you look at last week it was Snides indecisiveness that led to the last gasp tackle by Macarthy that unfortunately broke his leg in two places, Unsworth never used Snides - big Sam first name on the team sheet!
Utter waste of space imo!
Not stuck on Snides and hope they sell but I think it was more of a poor pass by Macarthy that led to the broken leg and not Snides on that occasion, on present form he probably would have lost the ball anyway even if it had been a good pass

It's a pity that they didn't take Schneiderlin, it might have all turned out differently with them lot and not us whingeing about not winning a derby since the advent of electricity and indoor plumbing.

To be fair, they took Jordan Henderson from Sunderland for £20m instead... pretty much the same level of player. ;)

Dont talk tripe. How can you compare a player who was great in his first season and a half here and then got terrible injuries that prevented him doing what he does best with this turd Schneiderlin?

FFS, heard it all now. This feller is way below McCarthy.
I really don't understand the criticism of McCarthy. As you say he had a period where he was great then a period where he always seemed to be injured but the leg break happened because of the wholehearted nature of his game.

Regarding Schneiderlin, I know that you never rated him and your assessment seems to have been correct, but I would like to look back at the Southampton midfield when he was playing well to see what set up and what players facilitated him earning the reputation he did.

According to the BBC, West Ham only willing to take him on loan.
I assume this is why the club are saying he's "not for sale"... likely negotiation tactics.

9 months

3 1/2 years

The bits in bold above are where the debate comes from. Plus his "great" performances were decided upon during the injury breaks and we can see that our recollections of a players importance whilst they are injured can be somewhat overblown (see Bolasie, Yannick - we couldn't win games when he was fit first time round, now he's back in the team we can't win games, yet he was going to save our season according to many on here).

When he was at Southampton he passed me by then too. I knew he was there but I wouldn't have said he was a stand out in that team.

IMO his good fortune in football is entirely the product of the rise of geekdom and the worshipping of performance data.

It's the triumph of quantitative analysis over qualitative analysis.

Erm absolutely not.

His data shows he has been several levels worse than bang average this year.

If anything people judge a player on the wrong basis. He's neat and tidy and that catches some people's eyes. Until you see him in your own side and you realise all his tidyness is in completely the wrong area of the park. He simply doesn't have the ability to hurt an opponent.

I'd argue we need more reliance on the numbers, but more importantly better interpretation skills so we use the important data, ignore the misleading stuff, and interpret it all properly.

Probably carried by Wanyama and Aldeweireld. I don’t really like Wanyama but at least he gets about. Those 2 kept the door shut but Schneiderlin seemingly took the headlines.

His "magnificent" datas from his S'ton and United days.

Oh how I was battered about the head by that data at the time he signed.

...yep. I have no idea what possessed two clubs to pay 20 odd million for him. His agent is a 'kin genius marketing that feller as a crucial component of a team.
