Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

The John Terry Anton Ferdinand incident took 9 months for him to be charged, Suarez-Evra it took at least 2 months.

Why are people getting antsy over the timescale?

No, it took 1 month to charge Suarez, and that was only because there were a lot of interruptions to the investigation with both United and Liverpool taking to the media to make more claims and counter claims...and the FA had to suspend their decision due to some BS "Uruguayan dialect" defence by Liverpool thrown in a week before that decision was due.

Here's the timeline of the affair:

Maybe that fat oaf should pipe up in his pressers and say how it’s dragging on and should be dealt with immediately.

Bang on about how a kid has been racially abused yet they’ve decided to charge him for a tweets he sent when he just hit puberty.

The club need to get a grip here, put the onus back on the FA and keeping banging the drum at every opportunity

A complete lack of comms on all three sides. Very strange. You would think if there was doubt in Holgate mind at all (or if he had been shown evidence that Firmino was innocent) then he would have been advised by Everton to retract his allegation and apologise. The fact he hasn’t, added to him making a statement to the referee with Allardyce and Walsh after the match must mean that he and Everton remain convinced there’s a charge to be made. They must have also consulted with the rest of the Everton players before allowing it to go to the FA. If there was any doubt from anyone close to the incident then I doubt Walsh and Allardyce would have accompanied Holgate to the referees office.

Also very strange that if Firmino was innocent (and Liverpool had seen evidence of it) that Liverpool would not be backing their player, but perhaps they’ve finally learnt better from the whole Suarez incident.

Have they?

Exactly. That timeline for the Evra affair I linked above underlines how much Ferguson and United did for Evra.

I think the issue will be lack of video evidence....

Holgate is clearly adamant he heard what heard....even if he now realised he misheard Firminho he ain't gonna admit that..
Everton have to support their player whether or not they believe him at this point...

Firminho will continue to deny he made a racist comment even if he did, as you would expect...
Whilst he continues to deny this, Liverpool have no option either but to support their player...
The Ref didn't hear anything on the night, and can't change his word on that now or he's finished...

So it's a complete stand off....
One of the players is lying, one isn't...

This is all Jonjoe Kenny's fault really

Would find it very surprising if there was no camera evidence of it at all at such a televised game like that. So many tv networks will have covered it.

It's nothing to do with lying though.

The most logical conclusion I can draw from the way everybody involved reacted is that Holgate misheard something that was said, so he genuinely believes he was abused, but Firmino didn't actually say what he thought he said. Holgate's sudden loss of composure strongly suggests that he's not lying, but the lack of reaction from everybody else in the vicinity makes it seem unlikely that something totally out of order was said.

Obviously I don't know the ins and outs of it, but that seems to me to be the most likely scenario.

Just read the article, well most of it, as it was quite long. Can be horrendous can't they the RS. Blindly supporting a player regardless of his conduct just because he was one of their better footballers. I doubt they would have got the awful t-shirts out for Lovren or Mignolet.

If the evidence is finely balanced then you must decide the most likely scenario.

As the RS have form for this ugly behaviour then Firmino must be found guilty.

As far as I’m aware Holgate hasn’t falsely accused anyone of racism before.
