Timothy Cahill

you say all he is is a talisman. now we're obviously not going to argue that he's a pretty useful footballer, and my question is simply what attribute is more important than being someone who leads by example and drives his team on?

Somone with quality?

If Cahill doesn't score, he's pretty much anonymous a lot of the time.

Mmmm. I have no agenda with Timothy. (Yes, Chico, I would do him, but that's the subject of another, wholly different thread in the Alehouse.)

I like Tim. I like it when he scores. BUT it seems to these ageing eyes that he doesn't pass a ball very well, and that he sometimes struggles to time his tackles (code for he's a dirty ****er).

Can you REALLY deny Rodwell a place because Tim is a Talisman? What happens when Tim is 62? Do we wheel him out just because he is Tim? There hasd to come a time, surely, when we say cheers mate. You're a true Blue. But we need to play younger, more rounded talent. You know what? I'm not even sure whether this is a good or bad position to be in. The thing about having choices that is. Last time, I can remember wanting to kill Catterick because he dropped Youngy for Royal. Looking back, after what, 40 years?, he was right to drop him though it breaks my heart to say so.

Neville is older than Cahill. If we are kicking people out because of their age then maybe some of the older ones should go first.

Maybe it's the age thing plus something else. And what I'm wondering is, does Tim have enough "other stuff"? Can he turn games? As I say, I'm really struggling with this. Love him to death, but is love a substitute for talent? You see, I remember Youngy scoring a superb goal against Spurs to effectively give us the title in '63. BUT by '68, this Talisman just couldn't give us enough.

Oh. and I've got to be brutally honest with you all, Tim is not even 25% of the player Alex was. Sorry guys. i know it hurts, but it's true.

Tim Cahill is not a conventional player - one you categorically state should be up front, in centre mid etc. etc. The two main contributions he makes to the side are his deception from set pieces and his aggression. He's still worth a starting place albeit with some reservations about his general link play. He's one of our top 4 or 5 players so to consider omitting him is ridiculous.

So do you think we should sell him? Considering his poor form last Season?

No. What people don't relise (after reading some comments on many a sites) is that Tims work rate is second to non. When we're defending he slots into the midfield closes the space and chases the ball down. It goes unoticed because people don't look past his goal scoring ability and if he aint scored you get people jumping on the bandwagon. He's a definate starter no matter how you look at it.

Fair enough lad, I agree with you to be honest.

And 1 final question, do you feel Moyes shows enough faith in the Youth Squad? What are your feelings on Shane Duffy?
