Left Back Debacle

Sam Allyrdyce has already mentioned left back as an area that needs to be strengthened so it is likely they have players in mind they would like to sign.

However, is it better to wait until the summer and try to sign a quality left back who is not available in this window or sign a lesser player just because he is available now.

I have seen people mention Luke Shaw... that can be forgotten about now. He is settling in as the first choice left back at Utd.

Lol public discussion forums are not for me because i like to discuss my passions (Everton) in detail? And i like to provide evidence to my claims, maybe they aren’t for you lol

Personal insult i am pretty sure i prefaced my mention of them as tongue in cheek, maybe that dosent work maybe back handed i dont know any other way how to preface with the fact i don’t consider them a personal insult

Claim bullying, i was raised not to tell on people mate if you were bullying me i’d throw it right back at you hence my responses to the comments you have already made

I just think sarcy comments like “you believe such and such what are you smoking” are intellectually poor

So what do you smoke ???

Question:

If you were Everton manager right now this late in the window with the understanding that transfers really do take a long time for every club not just us.... from negotiations to lawyers agents e.t.c how would you proceed?

Personally I would be attemtping to sign an established 25-28 year old left back with more than 2 years consistent premier league experience regardless of what club they play for. I would want the player first and foremost to be able to defend (often overlooled for attacking lwb) someone who can read the play and is not afraid to put their body on the line, they need good to very good pace and a decent injury record (less than ten games missed a seson barring major injuries like cruciate ligaments) then if i were to have options then the most likely to continue their run and support our LW and Siggy further up

At the same time i would be selecting players particuarly fringe team players to trial in that position during training and with behind closed door games And having the likes of Lookman Vlasic and Bolassie running at them, because lets be real a proffessional footballer should know the roles of his teammates and what the qualities and tendancies of the best in those positions are and try to emulate them, also have Baines detailing tricks of the trade with them, he is injured not brain dead

I personally would like to see Mo Besic given a run there i feel he fits the criteria very well

Without a doubt i do not feel Martina, Galloway or Garbutt can fill the role

Thoughts?
Is this a trick question mate.

I kind of feel Moshiri has been our head of recruitment so far lol
It really is difficult to know what is going on. The problem with a decision by committee is that nobody is to blame.

My own feeling is that for the first team it should be the manager that makes the decision, after all it is his job at stake.

If we looked clear from being dragged back into a relegation dog fight i'd almost agree with waiting. As it is we are dog dirt going forward, terrible at controlling midfield and the opposition only needs to attack our left to score. Even if we buy a bang average premierleague left back it would be better than Martina.

I'd be stunned if the club didn't go out and get a replacement this window, but then this is Everton we're talking about and everything is pointing towards the situation being neglected yet again.

So going with what we have got.... I'm not sure on the eligibility of Garbutt, but if we can register him, i'd bring him in to the squad and give him a chance, and if not him then Galloway. At this point, we just need a left footed player at left back. It's absolutely laughable that we may have to resort to bringing the likes of Galloway in who hasn't even been able to get a place at Sunderland but that's where we are thanks to those in charge. Garbutt may not be the answer long term, but he didn't look out of place when up against some quality players away at Wolfsburg so I don't know why he wouldn't be able to just do a job for a bit until we get a proper replacement for Baines in. Haven't seen him for a while though admittedly.

I think your suggestion of playing Besic wouldn't work for a similar reason as Martina. He isn't comfortable enough on his left foot for a start. Also think he lacks the mental discipline to play there and would probably be as much of a liability there as he has in his more favoured central positions. I see no future for him at this club and don't think he's good enough, especially not at left back.

It doesn't matter what uncle Toby told you after his late night visits to your bedroom, it's ok to tell someone.
