When those 5 mistakes where in effect about 30-40% of our total spend during that time period then yeah it is kinda relevant

The reality is that we haven't been a club whose bought consistently low and sold constantly high without making major mistakes as well.

Depenmds if you judge 20 games of a player at a club and then can determine if he's been a mistaken buy or not really mate, I'm assuming 4 of the 5 mistakes you are referring to are Keane, Sigurdsson, Klassen, Sandro, not sure who the 5th is, maybe Martina - which is weird as we didn't buy him he was a free transfer like.

Vlasic, Pickford, Onyekuru - all looked good purchases going forwards.

Not one of the 4 i mentioned earleir can be described as a mistake yet, Sandor - would make a profit on him if we sold him tomorrow, never know if he adjusts if he stays.
Klassen - had a horrible time so far, yet again though - too soon to call definitively on the matter, seen other Everton players have horrid starts to their careers and turn it around
Keane - will go on to be a decent cb for years.
Sigurdsson - will go on to prove he's a very good player - overpaid for him yeah - but still a very good player IMO.

As long as we get rid of all the deadwoods we'll be fine. Sell them and recoup money back and they are off the wage bill at the sametime.

For the record, saying YOUNG players are a mistake based on their first 6-12 months with the club is incredibly short sighted and most often wrong. Young players take time to develop, we would like to believe an 8 million signing can just walk onto the first team and play at a CL level, but its not going to be close in most cases. Case in point:

Coutinho.

How many years prior to him being a 100 million+ player did Liverpool buy him? If you think the answer is 1, you are very very wrong.
