Indeed...

The unproven or well past it nonsense we're bringing in at a daft fee and ridiculous wages.

1) The circumstances are massively different though, both in terms of the clubs overall stature and set up (Leeds aside), and the financial situation compared to now.

2) How much do you think it would cost to bring in a 1 in 2 striker from this league, in his prime, and would they even be a realistic target?

3) Everyone's paying ridiculous fees and wages now. Unfortunately we just have to get used to it and adjust our expectations on what players are worth.

Perfectly put Stevon.

Would take a punt on Batshuayi if he's available, but he's a poacher and that's it. Nothing more. So if Cenk is coming in and can do a few jobs, that's fine.

Key is giving him time to settle.

End of the day mate the fee isn't a massive one, the wages are par for the course these days with bringing in a high profile player from any European team

My guess with this lad is that Allardyce already has 1 or 2 players coming in he knows can complement him and vice versa and/or he thinks this lad can get some of the players we have on the books already to show the form that made us get them initially

£ is a £. Invest it poorly, it will catch up with you.

I think under Moshiri/Walsh, our transfer business has been the worst in the league.

We should definitly look at Batshuyai I think he would do very well here.

I'm going off stats in the Turkish league and who is doing well there, and on who has been a premier league success from turkey..

the besiktas fans have said its taken him 3 years to get to this point in turkey.

he will not get 3 years to get up to speed here, he wont even realistically get 3 months.

I will get behind him , as I do every player or manager. I know I sound very negative, but I cant stand the way we are operating when the league is a wash with money and we are just gambling time and again

NSNO

The league is awash with money, which means that money is getting thrown around all over the continent mate, and the days of the cheap shopping abroad is dead for premier league teams now, because if we'd have started offering them a cheap fee as per what they'd expect 3-4 seasons ago, then they simply get on the blower to a couple of teams like Newcastle, Wast Ham, Palace etc and they'd get a much bigger offer.

The Turkish fans/press that i read hasn't said it's taken him 3 years to get up to speed, but rather for the past three years or more he has been constantly improving in all areas of his game, and i see that as a huge positive, would rather get a bloke at 26 who has been constantly working his ares off to be the best he can be, than go for a 26yo who peaked at 20 and has been living off natural talent since then. Lewandowski for example at 20 was a average looking player, at 22 he started to look good, by 24 he exploded and was looking world class, and since then he has pushed on to another level again, same with Harry Kane, same with Shearer etc, will this lad be the same class as those - obviously not i'd say, but at a level down he may be a distinctly decent purchase

No
They exist and compete in a market driven by huge income and huge loss if the fail

Even more reason to be sensible then.

We've spent the best part of £300m since Moyes left and we've had Lukaku and possibly Pickford who have been good big money signings. The rest have failed or are bang average.

You could literally buy almost any club in Europe for what we've spent and yet we get destroyed by any half decent European team we play.

I agree. Pound for pound our business has been atrocious. It used to be we had little to no money but when we spent it we did it well. Now, it´s the opposite. At the moment it seems every player Liverpool buy is an instant success while for us it´s the opposite. We were always renowned for high quality scouting so the reason it´s suddenly gone tits up is a big issue that the club leadership need to resolve.

thing is mate look at say Moyes top ten biggest buys, a good number of those where actually bad flops

Think if we where replicating what Leeds did mate, you would have to be spending 80-90m quid on average players and giving them 400k pw

See what we're paying Sandro, Klaassen etc?

I'm not savvy/clued up enough on club finances, because it bores me but it does seem like we're used to shopping in Farmfoods for sausage rolls, but now in Waitrose and panic buying stuff we're not even sure what it is, like umami paste.
