I'm not saying he was absolutely atrocious in pre-season, simply that his performances were no better then than they have been in competitive games. Also i'm not disputing that you've seen him have good games, or saying he's an absolutely terrible player. The fact is though, not once in an Everton shirt has he looked anything more than OK. His 'quick thinking' in Ruzomberok saw him play a simple 10 yard pass into acres of space. It was nicely done don't get me wrong, but not exactly worthy of a highlight reel. You can float around doing nothing for 89 minutes if your one spark sees you ping one in the top corner from 30 yards, but if the sum of your contribution is going to be a well executed piece of simple football you're not going to stay in the team long - that's why he hasn't.

Using the Mkhitaryan example as a 'proper method' doesn't really work for many reasons. Firstly, there are countless players who have come to the PL and hit the ground running, so just isolating one player who didn't and saying 'that's how you deal with it' is incredibly selective and therefore an unsound basis for your conclusion. Secondly, that's not quite what happened with him anyway - he played in their first few games before getting injured and then couldn't get his place back until about December. Thirdly, and most importantly, you want us to 'ignore this season'. Your example of showing how you can help a player settle properly hinges on us ignoring the fact that he hasn't actually settled at all! 18 months after signing, Mkhitaryan has completed 90 minutes just 3 times in the Premier League, has only 5 goals and 6 assists, and is reportedly on the verge of being offloaded.

While I appreciate Mkhitaryan has not 'settled' in the sense that he's a key part of United's side - but in the back half of last season he was effective (I think he may have picked up an injury that derailed that somewhat?).

I just think with both Klaassen and Sandro it's been a whole range of issues. Some boil down to them not being good/adaptable enough, and others are down to bad tactical/managerial decisions.

I doubt he's ever played so deep in his life as we are currently playing right now, wouldn't see the oppositions goalie if its raining I reckon.

When the league likes of Schneiderlin and Davies are so out of form it would be nice to see Klassen given another shot at some point. The goals he could potentially add to our game would be worth a lot.

Something must have happened behind the scenes, that one pass in the EL should be enough to give him a few runouts, at least. The only reason i see him not having a chance is his build, he’s weak compared to what BFS wants. But he’s a quick passer of the ball, which would speed up our play from defence to attack, and the hoofball wouldnt be as.. needed?

If the Allardyce quote is accurate about Klassen and Sandro "having the assistance they need available" then it would point to an attitude issue.Possibly they both saw us as a team they could walk into, and now that it hasn't happened, just want out.

There's a player in there, I'm certain of it, but the (albeit limited) evidence so far would suggest that the pace and physicality of our league is too much for him

He could be a Cahill-type player, but he lacks the strength and aggression to make it work

I'd like to be wrong but I think he's likely to be off - not having been given a minute by Unsworth or Allardyce (not counting the EL) makes me think the writing's on the wall for him

He was captain of his former team. It's not often you're made captain if you have attitude issues.

I had very high hopes, but I just don't think he is physically cut out for the premier league, much like sandro.

the people who scouted them and the people who agreed and paid money on them need to give their heads a wobble

Pllllleeeeeaasssse give him a chance! I think he has something, he just needs playing time. I want him to be happy so he can convince Dolberg to come

definitely. You don't score that many and assist that many from midfield without something. Domestically and in europe, it must be said. I'd really like to see him go to someone like swansea on loan, a team who are desperate for a runner from midfield and aren't willing to pay too much transfer fee, and then we start again with him next summer.

He seemed to have those same traits as naismith did that i liked, which were much more valuable than our fans realised. Right place, right time, kind of person. He hasn't been given a go since our resurgence, which sadly means he's not showing enough in training, but then again, allardyce seem to be sticking to those he knows he can trust as opposed to taking any risks.
