If this is what the transition from Kenwright control to Moshiri control looks like then that's not a good omen for the future.

We've seen change at Everton in the last 20 months but it hasn't been a change for the better.

I've tried to be fairer to Allardyce as constantly berating him is not reasonable. If lads like Unsworth and particularly Royle are eased out of the club it really doesn't sit easily with me. The man is a club legend in the truest sense (not like Kenwright who thinks he is) and does deserve some preferential treatment.

It really saddens me if Joe has gone. People like Joe Royle working for the club representing the small bits of what is positive about the football club.

How do you work out he's worth 10 of the new regime ???? Other than being one of the best number 9's to have played for us, what has he achieved ?????
If he doesn't feel comfortable with those around him now then perhaps he needed to resign.....Typical blue tinted glasses reaction.
Time to move on....and stop living on past glories !!!!
What's he acheived ?????
If you dont know you really shouldnt be replying mate.
This is Joe Royle not Phil Neville.....sake.

He would probably have to leave at some point in the near future anyway, especially if he wouldn’t have a meaningful role.

I’d be naming a stand after him, I hold him in that esteem but I’m not really concerned about this if true.

He gave tremendous service as a player and manager and those times have come and gone. I have no doubt he would assist us in any way he can but let the man enjoy his future with his family with his status as Everton legend secured forever.

Thank you Joe for everything whether it’s goodbye or not.

Maybe we think too much. He has given a lot to the club and it’s time we let him enjoy a peaceful retirement.

Very difficult to tell from the outside how capable people are in their roles. Everton, again from the outside looking in, reeks of nepotism rather than a meritocracy in technical roles.

We shouldn't be sentimental when it comes to showing technical people the door, it's a performance business.

In non technical matters you'd like to think people like Joe will always be welcome as he is a true legend.

I would suspect he offered to stay on & help until a new management team was in place then he would step down, this seems the more logical explanation.

I did read somewhere that he had an operation due. I thought it was telling he wasn't as heavily involved in the dug out as the first time Unsworth took charge.

Perhaps he just wanted to step back as he thinks the club is in capable hands again and doesn't need to add his input?

You have also had a random pop at someone who does a bloody good job at making sure the small bits of what is positive about the football club are heavily pushed but whatever...

I'm not sure Allardyce et al would be the reason for this. I'd hazard a guess and say Royle is a casualty of a culling of influential people inside and outside the club by Moshiri too closely aligned to the past.

The sort of change that sees a man of the stature of Royle leaving the club is change we dont need.

Does there always have to be a dark back story? Joe isn't getting any younger and now the new managers in he's done his best with Unsie, time to move on.

In the immortal words of Clint Eastwood, "thanks Big Joe"

Enjoy your retirement
