David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

He was entirely set up to fail by the board.

They announced him as interim manager who had a chance at getting the job. That was mixed messages from the start. That told every member of the first team that not only was this not the board's first choice but this was a fella willing to be strung along while the board pissed about for 4 weeks.

The players knew Unsworth was a last resort and so it can't be any surprise that after they've run out one manager, and in some cases a second, and that they are hardly going to be focused on giving their all for temporary cone layer from the U23s.

The writing was on the wall when it became known how Schneiderlin and Mirallas were treating training. Don't think they're the only ones taking the piss, you can't watch our matches and think it is only them two.

He was on a hiding to nothing taking this job and while he hasn't exactly done much to earn him any plaudits with this team, I cannot in good conscience hold anything that happened here against him as he's someone who I believe has been taken advantage of and was intentionally misled to overestimate his chances of getting the job while everybody and their dog knows that he is the absolute last resort.

He didn't deserve this, and he doesn't deserve the abuse. I'm genuinely worried that anybody coming in is going to struggle to get that defence conceding only 1 per game.

Sorry but he’s been crap and hasn’t helped himself at all with lots of bizarre decisions.
No sympathy from me, had a chance and blew it.
Just hope he’s not in charge tomorrow, if he is, it’s another defeat.

I just don't see how you can expect him to get these players to listen to him and work for him when they weren't doing it for a manager who most of them choose to sign for and who was a widely respected name in the game and he doesn't himself have the confidence of the board to appoint him permanently. Everything about that sets him up not to be listened to as he isn't there for the long term.

Did he make mistakes along the way? Absolutely.

Playing Sigurdsson up front is the stand out among a couple of poor decisions he made but he became the captain of an already sinking ship with a mutinous crew.

He does not deserve the treatment, exposure etc that he has been exposed to. He has been the fall guy for Bill etc. I really feel for him in the press conferences. The only good thing he is not alone, the fans have been the fall guys as well.

I don't think you will find many folk arguing the case for Unsworth, but you can't fairly judge him without considering how the board have continually undermined him during his short tenure, dangling the carrot of the job permanently while publicly going after other targets, how on earth can he be expected to galvanise an under performing squad of prima donna's? The players knew from day 1 that he'd be out on his ear, I think even Pep or Jose would struggle in that scenario.
