Aren't Southampton's board wealthier than Pozzo? I think the key issue here is the timing. Watford are happy to sacrifice any sum of money for the freedom to choose at the end of the season. That makes a lot of sense when you are talented as you are at identifying managers.

Nah, I understand where you're coming from, but, to use a cliche, the ship needs steadying and making good before she can go forward with full sail again ... or something.

To be honest, it's a mess and I don't know who, of the likely candidates, is best to take us forward. Given we're less than three months into the season, the list of candidates is pretty small, which ain't ideal, but we just have to run with it.

We need Tony Pulis to steady the ship and steer is clear of relegation

He won't be able to mate. But he might be able to with some defensive additions and Coleman back.
Its getting that way that I'd even play Kenny at LB once Seamus is back. Two new defenders who can actually defend and organise might help.

The Pozzos are wealthy enough to not need it but of course they will have a price. The point is that price would be far in excess of what Silva's signature is actually worth and I'm sure there are a few top clubs throughout Europe that would jump at such sums for their coaches. Gino Pozzo is not your typical owner, football is not just a hobby to him, it's his whole career.

I agree with the points about the team, but I've had a season ticket for 21 years, I've watched ups and downs. This is the worst we've been, and I see no hope anywhere.

As for apathy, it can be seen 2 ways. The supposed apathy that is actually patience seen through the eyes of the impatient vocal minority, especially though with a social media platform to shout from. And the apathy that comes from people being sick of the endless cycle of negativity and realise they can't deal with it any more, as it supposed to be fun.

I'm at the 2nd point, and a place where I feel no connection any more. The negativity that strangled us under Martinez is there, ready and waiting to pounce as soon results turn away from the unrealistic expectations of some of the fan Base who feel that we have a divine right to be at the top. There seems to be no reasoning that patience is required. The same fans wanted Moyes gone in year 2, but were forced to endure, and things got better with time.

That negativity spreads like wildfire, and we are only ever 2 or 3 losses away from the malcontent doom mongers who shout the loudest from starting the whole cycle all over again.

We will get another manager, and we may see an upturn, and he will be a saviour, a genius, a chosen one. And then we'll lose a few games and the polls will come out over who was worse between him and Mike Walker, and how should get the latest trendy foreign manager to take us to the promised land. It's tiresome.

I kinda preferred it when we were [Poor language removed] because at least the expectations were in check.

I get that mate. If there's a release clause in the summer though, which it has been widely reported there is, and would be consistent with most other managers you've had then they will lose a lot of bargaining power in the summer. I think they are happy enough with that, as the pool of replacements is bigger.
 
I've been following Everton for 5 decades. Seen a couple of very close calls on being relegated and some very bad teams (firmly bottom half of table) too.
Can recall some very bad individual defenders and defending in that time too. But as a defence unit, and defensive strategy (in other words frontline to backline workrate) I think this season is the worst I've seen.
The thought of Martina Jags and Williams in the same back four for the next few games is making me want to vomit.

All this 'banter' with Watford over Silva is getting a bit tedious too now.
Either pay ridiculous money. Although I don't see this happenning. Even £25m (as Davek suggests), won't be enough for Watfords Board 'agreement'. Or back off and look elsewhere.
Must be sorted by close of business tomorrow. Enough is enough.
