To be fair Dave, I think if Walsh was putting realistic options forward and Koeman was dismissing them we'd hear Walsh shouting that from the roof tops now to clear his own name in this fiasco.
He needs all the ammunition available because eyes are undoubtedly focussed on him now regarding a) the effectiveness of his position, b) his personal ability and whether Leicester was a fluke, and c) to convince any new manager that the DoF isn't going to interfere with them once in. I honestly think point c is likely to dissuade some managers, and that may mean we get somebody who is well down our pecking order of choice.
A DoF has to rise above all that nonsense and keep their own counsel. Part of the job.

IMO Walsh was putting realistic options forward and Koeman was knocking them back being bloody minded.

The options were there, as Koeman said himself. If he thought going with no striker was preferable than going with one that wasn't his ideal purchase what does that tell you about Koeman?

Pass the smelling salts.

Problem last time was we recruited the manager before we recruited the DOF. Who knows what promises regarding signings Koeman was given.

This time around it can be made clear from the start that any signings have to be signed off by the manager/DOF/U23 manager to ensure they meet the criteria of improving the team, having long term value, representing good value for money and not blocking the path of any home grown talent.

He also has to "direct" and that means making strong strategic decisions, promoting open communications throughout the Club and not hiding in the background. I'm unconvinced with him....there's little evidence to suggest he's doing the job he's well paid for yet.

I tend to see a transfer programme that is easily assessed in terms of players that will have come through at the behest of Walsh and those demanded by Koeman.

I'd give more marks to Walsh than Koeman form what I can figure out.

I wouldn't judge Walsh just yet. He's had to deal with a nightmare character like Koeman.

And Koeman had to deal with the quietest, most reclusive DoF in football. I think you could argue the position for both of them....yet only one lost his post.
Who did we sign of any substance whatsoever that any ordinary Joe wouldn't have signed? Pickford, Keane and Sigurdsson would have been on most Everton managers list, Sandro came purely because of the price tag and Vlasic wasn't scouted...he simply turned up twice and played well against us. Lookman possibly, but most of us knew the Charlton lad was destined for a bigger club. The one I'm not sure about is Onyekeru (sp)...but he's been nowhere near the squad so difficult to say it's a success or otherwise.

Don't understand what you mean by this

Gueye, Sandro, Vlasic, DCL and Lookman have Walsh's paw prints all over them. The obvious one's like Klaassen and Sigurdsson and Keane and Schneiderlin and Bolasie are easily discernible as Koeman purchases, as he worked with them/talked them up well in advance of them arriving.

Come on Dave....nobody within Everton knew the slightest thing about Vlasic...he rocked up to play against us, made an impression and got signed...pretty much the same way Ronaldo did with United. Gueye is, for me, the only one he's sought out that nobody else had on their radar.

Fair enough on Vlasic.

All of the ones you have tagged as Koemans signings hit high on various statistics though mate, and Walsh is a huge fan of stats analysis in player recruitment.

Klassen and Sigurdsson both covered as much ground as any player in their respective divisions, keane recorded a huge amount of blocks etc, Schneiederlin likewise at Saints recorded some amazing numbers in key areas, and Leicester tried to buy Bolasie when Walsh was there.

Maybe Koeman was the one who called them out as wanting them, but all of them pass the Walsh statistics test, the main issue with walsh that none of us can know yet, is if he can balance the equation between a players ability and stats that say he's a good acquisition and balance that against the prices being asked - now that he's at a club unlike Leicester was then with genuine money to spend...

That all goes back to what you reckoned about us overpaying though - which ofc we did do - but we wouldn't have gotten those players for less (maybe some we would if we'd negotiated harder - but who knows on that)

As for all those signings - i think all besides Bolasie (due to injury)and Klassen (due to looking so out of his depth it's untrue) will ultimately come good, IF we sold any of the others say in January - i doubt we'd actually take a hit on what we paid on any of them in this market - with the exception of Sigurdsson - which we overpaid for obviously (given we'd already brought in Klassen and Rooney)

You left out one who is 100% a Walsh signing btw, the young lad whose been loaned to Anderlecht - no chance on earth Koeman would buy a player he'd only end up working with for 1 of his 3 years at most.
