That chinless cnut Osborne announced already:

  • Freezing of Child Benefit
  • Housing Benefit's limited
  • Attack on pensions and pension credits
  • More stringent medical assessments for those on disability allowances
  • Two year pay freeze for public sector workers
  • VAT to rise from 17.5% to 20%

We're all in it together.

Big trouble ahead here. The VAT rise is gonna push the cost of food and everything else up. Same old Tories. Everyone is gonna get squeezed now. Fookin Marvelous.

They dont give a fcuk. They love it. It's not about getting the deficit down for this lot (they've been told by the OBR that the forecast for a debt rise this year over shot), it's all ideology. They want to cane the weak and reassert what they regard as their social superiority. They're like pigs in [Poor language removed] the Tories.

Its pretty much similar to what happening all around Europe for the past two years we're living in a different financial world. Thats actually pretty tame in comparison to whats needed and whats happened elsewhere, IMO, but politicaly i giuess its a start - how much does he reckon that will cut the deficit?

I know Ireland got the big axe out early, but from what I remember reading on the level of welfare, for example, it was much higher to begin with, so the pain was bad but not crippling? Also, Ireland has that age old fall back safety valve of migration (not a good thing, but something that allows that society to cushion itself from social unrest when the [Poor language removed] hits the fan). There might not have been a reaction in Ireland (yet) but there has been elsewhere and this austerity wont go unanswered over here...you can guarantee that.

Merseyside getting hardest hit by this budget, the least hit, Cheshire, were Mr Osbourne's constituency is.

And people wonder why i don't like England

Well there was a certain amount of cival unrest over here, public service strikes and a group tried to storm the Dail only a few weeks ago.

We're about half through we need to take another 6bill out of the economy over the next 2 years so im not fooling myself. Our situation being far worse i recognise.

Two points on the UK really, the measures above are pretty tame compared to what the rest of the world has seen - hopefully they will continue to be as soft - though i fear this may be the start of the hammer to bring down the deficit with cuts rather then freezes likely. Its always the same its the man in the street who gets hit and it happened here and it will happen over there. Politicaly its the right action to take for the economy to recover - but painfull to live with as we have seen over here.

Secondly you have to recognise Labours role in not taking action before the elecetion - which was badly needed - its wrong playing politics with peoples lives.

I would be moderate left in my poilitcal thinking but Labour really let the country and ordinary people down with their strategy over the last 18 months - loading the economy so the Torries and Lib Dems take the bullit of provideing the pain for ordinary people. Sad thing is it will prob work and they will be power after the next election.

.

This was a global financial crisis caused by a financial class. It's ridiculous laying this at their door. If Labour hadn't have stepped in to fill the void of private sector job losses in the wake of that crisis from autumn 08, mass unemployment would be on us now. None of that's to deny Labour's accomodation with the financial sector, by the way.

As for the Tories and their puppet figures from the Lib Dem leadership: they're taking great delight in cutting back quickly and placing all the emphasis on hitting the welfare state and public sector employees. They see this as an opportunity to roll back the state. It's not a cleaning up operation in the wake of another government's 'mess' as you like to portray it.

And this will all backfire as the country goes into another economic dip and a social crisis. These are very early days. When this package starts hitting home come back on here and tell me that you think the Tories will win the next election.

Most food of a kind used for human consumption is ZERO rated for VAT.

Except:
* ice cream, similar products, and mixes for making them – see 3.5;
* confectionery, apart from cakes and some biscuits, – see 3.6;
* alcoholic beverages, – see 3.7;
* other beverages, and preparations for making them – see 3.7;
* potato crisps, roasted or salted nuts and some other savoury snack products – see 3.8 and;
* products for home brewing and wine making – see 3.7.

And:
Food supplied in the course of catering
You must always standard-rate food supplied in the course of catering, including hot take-away food.

So anyone (DAVEK) saying food is going to go up, especially your home bill - are telling you LIES.

As the ZERO rate exemptions for VAT remain under this budget, they haven't been touched.

So some foods and drinks are hit by VAT...but it's a lie to say that VAT will increase the cost of food and drink?

Can you tie your own shoelaces yet?

Only foods which are effectively "preprepared" - i.e. a SERVICE applied to them like Sandwiches etc.

The food in the supermarkets. NADA.

You're the idiot DAVEK. LYING LIKE GORDON BROWN to people.
