I like him, never lost that geniality that teases out the truth from people without them knowing it. The last episode on Brasses wasn't the best tbf

He uses his stereo typical " Englishness " to disarm and also charm people who normally wouldn't open up to anyone.

In saying that Saville shut him down, as did Paul and Debbie Daniels.

Some of the stuff he does in the likes of the Super Max jails in the states is going to get him in trouble one day.

I do enjoy watching his stuff.
Part of that is the fact that he comes across as a bit thick sometimes, to get the most out of the people he's filming, when he clearly isn't thick at all.
The Saville one, in hindsight, whilst superb and often very creepy ( at a time when he was still held in high esteem publicly ) was a blot on his copybook as he could have blown that wide open.
But I guess that's a huge gamble for a young documentary maker.

If you haven't watched some of Stacey Dooley and what she does now, as well as being a proper fit ginger, she gets to the real story and is equally as good in this field.

Dooley is condescending to the documentary subjects and never draws out even the slightest of insights into complex subjects. It's painful to watch, she's not anywhere near Theroux's level.

I started watching his weird weekends years ago and just found him brilliant at doing what you said: coaxing the story out.

I remember reading something from him regarding saville, saying that he has regrets about not digging deeper and exposing him. America’s most hated family was a great piece of film making as well.
