Ronald Koeman discussion

I don't think sacking a manager makes a club ambitious, but I would expect an ambitious club to sack a manager when things have clearly gone south. Chelsea did it with Mourinho, United with Moyes, Liverpool with Rodgers. Clubs with real ambition don't accept poor performance for long.

Then I suppose it's where the board draw the line.

Rodgers went this weekend two years ago, after we'd drawn with them (would have been the 4th of October I believe).

Then again, Mourinho was given until December - though he did have a title win under his belt!

It makes sense to get rid now if we are going to get rid... rather than wait.

Just as a genuine question, did you view Palace as ambitious when they sacked FDB?

Like, I'm not sure the main criteria of an ambitious club is sacking a manager, that's all - even though if Koeman was shown the door then I wouldn't really care.

Palace got rid after 4/5 games, we've had 14 we spent 150m and the trend in our current awfulness started about 5-7 games at the end of last season mate.

The manager already publicly contradicted the owners ambitions about the season, we loo likely to bomb out of Europe and a domestic cup early.

I wasn't saying sacking a manager us a sign of an ambitious club, more an ambitious club does and would sack a manager who has delivered what we have seen since April.

It's easy to be critical of Moshiri in hindsight with the appointment of Koeman, but I also thought that his PL experience and a very decent record at Soton made him a decent choice. Safe almost.

I thought the initial suggestion of him for the job was underwhelming, but like you do on these occasions, once he got the job you look for the positives and get behind the guy.

Without doubt, taking away his time at Soton, there were clear alarm bells ringing but the benefit of hindsight is great. Koeman has done exceedingly well for himself living off his playing days whilst sustaining a very unremarkable managerial CV. Should the inevitable boot make contact with his backside soon enough, he will probably get another well paid cushy number and there is always the Netherlands job in the end.

The important thing now is to take action and get a replacement in, and hopefully learn from the experience.

The owner hasn't put forward any ambitions or targets for this season mate, so don't be telling porkies ;)

Look, I'm really unsure.

I want Moshiri to be decisive and that's the main thing.

If we're going to sack Koeman, it might as well be now, as there are two quality replacements we could at least try for even if they don't come off in Tuchel and Ancelotti.

But, there's the other side of the coin in that it's still - even though it doesn't feel that way - extremely early in the campaign relatively speaking, and even at this stage one or two positive results changes everything.

I'm really split.
