No doubt we failed to bring in a striker this summer, but Koeman has said that by the time we got down to the 5th or 6th name on the list, there was doubt about whether they were good enough to improve the team. Who's to blame for us not getting any of the first 3 or 4 names on the list? Walsh? I'd be interested to hear why.

Surely you have to ask questions of the targets as well though? If he made a list of Giroud, Aguero, Sanchez, Costa and then we weren't able to get any of them over the line, is he absolved of any blame because he's not the one doing the negotiating? You would think the list would have to be realistic.

Did we really all have all our eggs in the Giroud basket? I think most of us felt that Walsh came in with almost a promise of signings like Kante, Vardy, Mahrez etc. but if our targets are pretty much all current or former Premiership players, then you do have to wonder where the value is.

Far to much assuming going on, we really dont know what decisons were his and what were not...i will judge him on results, which may include development of youth players...so surely have to give him 3 years at least

Do the coaching staff not get credit for developing youth players?

I don't get the ones who don't think Giroud would have been great for us. Even if only for a little while.

It upsets me that the boss thought it was so close to being done which actually meant we had a chance of getting him.
This is the one position we should have overspent on. The fact we haven't filled Roms boots with anyone at all is top drawer buffoonery.

It's the truth 61 mate.

However, there's nothing we can do about it now. We all know it. The manager knows it. But it can't be changed. So i'm going to try and stop going on about it myself.

It's up to these people to make something of what we do have.

I find it utterly bizarre how many people take such firm and often angry stances based on mostly assumption.

It's happened all summer with the Barkley scenario and in so many other areas too.
It's an outlet of anger for them. They're angry self loathing folk who want to vent and use Everton as a vehicle for it.

Thankfully I will not allow them to use this forum as personal anger relief therapy. No way. Not on my watch.

I think we need to see how the kids he's brought into the u23's get on. If Bowler etc get a chance and make an impression I'd say that's his doing.

Let see how Vlasic gets on too.

My assumptions on having no striker after the transfer window is based upon us not having a striker after the transfer window.
My other assumption was that Walsh as DoF or 'top scout' is paid to get players in. We are missing a striker and left sided defender. My assumption is that this was blatantly obvious back in June and assume it was his job to find them.

yes, i mean the ones we signed...assuming they are walsh signings...

its overall credit really isnt it
How the young players we've bought in develop will be significant in determining if Walsh is a success or not but as you say it may take a few years. It's an astonishing number of signings really , 5 into the U23s , 6 if you include the onloan and returning Donkor, plus three youngsters who are supposedly first team ready , Ramirez, Vlasic and the on loan Onyekuru.
These are clearly signings that Walsh had a significant hand in, Koeman may have heard of Sandro that's about it. Unsy would likely have had some input too , although when he has in the past itvtends to be announced with the signings e.g. Bassala Sambou and DCL.
But the heartbeat of the club is how the first team are doing , how the signings are faring .... and who we didn't sign. The lack of a Lukaku replacement at the moment is the stand out issue and unless we learn otherwise Walsh was party to that mistake.

From what I can gather from the latest echo podcast our top 3 striker targets were Giroud, Batshuayi and Jiminez in that order. We were convinced we had Giroud and apparently it's his missus fault.

Still disgraceful we didn't get either Giroud or Michy in.

The impression I got was that Walsh would identify and buy targets for the future and Koeman would be in charge of transfers for immediate first teamers as every manager is fully aware longevity at one club no longer exists.
