Yakubu for Altidore? Thanks, but no contest for me. A fully fit Yak is the best striker Everton could possible hope for.
Btw, did you like what I did there to avoid the bait?
WTF? Either your just messing around or you didn't read my post right. I said Jozy isn't [Poor language removed]. And I'm saying that he hasn't been very good for any of his club teams, not only Hull.
You wimp. SMASH HIM SPIKE LID.
No doubt you know him better than me and if the rumour turns out to be true and Moyes really wants him, than I guess I'm wrong. Quite sure that David Moyes has more knowledge about football than me, not gonna argue about that. So if he decides that he wants to replace the Yak with Altidore than that's fine with me. It's just I can't see that happening. Personally I like Yakubu and he no doubt is a proven goalgetter at this level. Nothing against Altidore, but he still has a lot of improving to do, before he'll be considered being in the same bracket as Yakubu for me. Always glad to be proven wrong, if he is to join us.Couple things here.
First, would certainly not imply jozy is better than yak at this point. That would just be silly. I do, however, believe he has potential to be very, very, good. Clearly most here do not agree, fair enough. Although I wonder how much of him everybody has seen. I've seen a lot, going back to his days as a 16 year old playing for New York in MLS.
Also, part of the thread was due to the fact that Wahl implied Yak was going. So my opinion that a move for jozy made sense was IF this is true. Now Wahl is generally trusted within US circles but I don't believe he'd be the person to know about yak. But I imagine the jozy link may have at least some legs.
If so, do we not trust Moyes & his eye for talent? To me the big question would be whether this was another loan attempt or full purchase. If loan, could simply be more good business for extra cover. But if permanent, then to me it would mean Davey sees something which many here don't. Big difference, would love to know which of the 2 this new talk refers to. Three Stooges/Amigos/Musketeers???
Finally, on the Heskey-type comparisons, it's important to understand the major differences. Altidore, while big & strong, is a goal-facing fwd FIRST who is just now learning back-to-goal holdup play. Not other way around. And the improvement he's shown in that area, along w/ 1st touch & passing awareness, has been significant. But again, don't confuse him for an immobile target. He's VERY fast for somebody his size. He plays & moves very well within a free flowing system. So when he holds/links, he can then make sprinting run to receive back. That after his muscle has already worn down the defender(s). And on these particular plays, he's a VERY good finisher. And Everton's style of play would suit this portion of his game very well. He's got some surprising 1 on 1 moves as well. That said, still has much work to do, 1st touch, training habits, refining holdup play. But based on the improvements I've seen, there's nothing to indicate he won't continue to improve.
And, yes, I also believe vic is better comparison. And I agree w/ many who have been impressed & look forward to seeing him next season. But whereas vic has played much on wing, I see jozy primarily in either fwd slot. But that he could play both target AND withdrawn Cahill role, in my opinion, is part of what makes him appealing.

To be fair, spike, he was pretty good as a 16 year old in MLS. Think about that big man. 16. So basically, within the next year could you see yourself competing w/ grown men, professionals in a very physical league?
He scored 1 goal in 6 cameo appearances as an 18 yr old, in a new country where he doesn't speak the language, on a team which reached the quarterfinals of the champions league.
And then there was Hull. Not sure how many games you caught, I watched almost all of them. He had ups & downs, but overall the stats are very misleading. He was consistently 1 of their most dangerous & effective players. He was an absolute handful for defenders (ask john terry & his chelsea mates), drew a ridiculous amount of fouls & penalties, & likely created more oppourtunities for teammates than anybody else on that team. And on the lack of goals, it's not like he missed a bunch of chances. There WERE NO CHANCES!
More importantly, he went there to improve, specifically on:
-adjust to higher level of defending
-1st touch
-holdup/link play
-vision/awareness
-off the ball movement
And on all of these, he made MAJOR improvements. So, I think it's unfair to say he basically "stinks" at club level. He's now scored 9 goals in 24 full international appearances. Heskey/Cole combined have 7 in 64 appearances. And he's 20 years old.
Sorry, I'm all about objective analysis & fair criticism, but let's try to put this kid's career in something that resembles appropriate perspective.
You mean smash you? It was your bait I was talking about. You put that pic to get a reaction.
Nordeke, I agree with you now. Just a miss communication
I agree with 110% of everything you just said.. wow..
He compared Emile Heskeys Goal ratio, when you start doing that, you have lost.
