2017/18 Davy Klaassen

Last night underlined how sluggish we are. I dont think it's a lot to do with fitness either. We have no pace and adding Sigurdsson doesn't solve that...neither does losing Barkley.

Klaassen will be useless in the PL against teams sitting back. He just wont get the time to think and pick a pass out against most teams. He'll need to show he can at least win free kicks by screening the ball and being canny in the final third, because sure as eggs are eggs he wont be surging past many defences here.

Further back he isn't going to trouble either Schneiderlin or Gueye for their places.

Maybe he shows us something more as the months go by, but I have massive reservations over this signing.
First game so can't give a full judgement. I just don't see, at the moment, what this guy gives us over Davies. Davies can pick a pass, moves the ball quickly, run past a man and has an eye for goal. He's still developing and will only get better. Side in general is woefully short of pace.

I tend to agree.

If I had to pick the best team right now I would have Davies ahead of Klaassen

And here I was thinking my fellow Ajax fans were harsh for there own players. Jeez the guy has played one official match and some of you have already written him off it seems. Give him some time will ya. This is new for him too, new teammates, new league, new manager. Sometimes it takes a while to get used to new things. I would be more concerned with the lack of pace on the wings if I were you guys. You need Bolasie back asap and preferably a new pacey forward. Anyway, good luck this season, I'll be rooting for you guys as I'm sure many other Ajax fans will do too. ;)

The problem is, do we really need passing for passing's sake again? Not sure we need another Snivelley / McCarthy just tapping it sideways or backwards.

The amount of feather-light passes he made last night which left players short, someone is going to get injured
Just sounds like you have got an agenda now to be honest mate

No, just an opinion in a sponsored thread. I think he has been poor so far and destabalised a working side. Square peg, round hole sort of thing.

Game has changed since then though. Pace is king.

Kendall was still quite anonymous in his first 12 months performances with the club. And he wasn't exactly the swiftest of players either.

Pace is not the be-all-and-end-all of the game. Never has been. Never will. There's that other element to the game. What's it called? Oh yes, SKILL.

15 all. Over to you again, Dave.

I know its very early days and don't want to come across as bedwetting but last night was disappointing not just the performance but the balance of the side was all wrong

I think the main problem with us at the moment is competitive match fitness, our opponents are up to speed already and boy did it show, we will be another week fitter come the away tie and we obviously now know what we are up against and what we have to do.

I like most people was expecting a comfortable win last night but we were a yard off the pace.

I was impressed with Klaassen and I think he will prove himself to be a more than decent player once he settles in, I like his box to box stamina, his enthusiasm and his ability to ghost into the box.

It's always the same with Everton pre season, we are always slow starters, let's just hope they get they get their backsides into gear for next week I,m sure they will.

I thought he was the best player on the pitch, always looking to create chances with one touch passes. Quick thinking and always wanting the ball. He was a bit rusty second half like but so was everyone.

I have no worries about him being a boss player this season
