Everton Youth Teams Thread

Stick it on record along with the Germany game beforehand if I'm out. Should be a great tournament though! Wonder how many of our lads will start.

..not sure. I'd expect Kenny will be first choice, especially with his international tournament experience (he scored the winning penalty in the Euro final a few seasons ago). I think D C-L and Lookman will get game time. Tomorrow's should be a good game even if the first group matches are usually cagey and often end in a draw.

Teams tend to play themselves into tournaments so it might be wise to not expect too much.

Yeh I'm looking forward to it. I expect us to win tomorrow; Argentina as a group aren't brilliant but they have some outstanding players. Obviously will be watching our lads but a few to keep an eye on from their camp:

Ascacibar - Next Mascherano
Lautaro Martinez - Next Aguero

Ponce, Senesi, Mansilla and Conechny all highly rated.

..Liam Walsh nominated for PL2 Player of the Season award;

http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2017/05/19/walsh-nominated-for-player-of-the-season

I notice he's the only Everton player on the list. Be great for the lad if he wins it.
Looking at the format of nomination (number of MOMs selected by opposing managers), this award is going to favour players that stand out in their team. Everton have so many good players that it is likely a different player is picked every game. Same with city who have nobody on the list.

On a different note I see we have nobody in the squad for Toulon. This is made up of a mix bag of players who will not be selected for the U19/U20/U21 tournaments this summer. I thought players like Walsh and/or Williams may have had a chance in this. Didn't recognise any of the names in the squad tbh.

hes injured or would have been selected in u20 WC squad

When? How? What?. Was in the South of Cornwall for best part of a month and it's like being on another planet at times.

End of world for Everton's Liam Walsh
Broken foot spells World Cup heartache for Everton youngster

Liam Walsh has suffered World Cup heartache after fracturing his foot.

The Everton youngster was set to be named as part of England’s under-20s squad headed to the tournament in South Korea.

But Walsh was forced to undergo an operation on Monday to repair damage to his toe and so will miss the competition.

Five Blues players were named in Paul Simpson’s squad and they jetted to Japan for a training camp this morning.

Kieran Dowell, Jonjoe Kenny, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Ademola Lookman and Callum Connolly are in the travelling party for the World Cup which runs from May 20 to June 11.

“He’s done his fifth metatarsal, which is a real shame,” said David Unsworth.

“He had an operation today to tighten that up which is a real shame because he was in the squad for the World Cup.

“We’re all a bit gutted about that but he will be fine for pre-season. It’s a clean fracture of his little toe, these things happen.”

Cheers mate.

That's a double blow for the lad as he's always getting overlooked at International level.

Think Dowell has a good chance too. They like to play with a left footer on the right of a forward 3 and Patrick Roberts stayed with Celtic (which annoys me a little bit as Celtic won their league yonks ago and don't exactly need Roberts to beat Aberdeen in the Scottish cup final).

..it'd be good to see Dowell get a run, he's the type who has the quality to impress at this level.

I'd like to see him given a run out as the advanced one in a midfield 3. If he has a major fault it's that he doesn't get involved enough in games and I think playing in that position will give him more touches. Plus his skill and vision can hurt teams from there if he's given the time. he's played there before for England, but they've also utilised him wide right and, with Roberts being absent, I think that's where we're more likely to see him. Which will be a shame as I can see him being on the periphery of games.

Shame for England not to have him but good for him to play in a cup final and win some silverware I reckon.

Fair point. But I think when Roberts looks back on his career he may find that the Scottish Cup was not one of his finer achievements.

With him in the team England have a good chance of winning the competition because he's capable of doing those extra special things that win matches. I think you'll find that we'll be very hard to beat. Plus it's more experience at tournament football. A one sided game against Aberdeen will not give him the same experience imo.

Who knows though. It could have been the lads decision to stay. He's certainly been outstanding for them over the last couple of months.

Or he stays at home and our own player, Dowell, get to play whom can also do extra special things?

Rather our own lad play than City's tbh.

Haha yeah that's true. I think it was his choice not to go, I remember reading it somewhere. He may regret it.

Very true. I'd prefer to have both if them in the 11 tbh. I also think Lookman, not just Dowell, will be getting more game time with Roberts not being there.
