Wow - that's three of the four frontmen from the Grunge revolution gone (Cobain, Staley and now Cornell). Very sad news - apparently was just playing a show last night.

They where the ground breakers in that sound of music

Completely true that, they were the most prominent of the first wave of grunge bands. Their streak of albums from 1990-1996 are among some of the greatest ever written.

Anybody checked on Eddie Vedder?

Absolute bombshell when I saw this earlier. I was listening to badmotorfinger yesterday on the way from work. I just missed the beginning of the grunge scene and was only 13 in 96 when I first really started listening to music but I was and have been a Grunger ever since.

Pearl jam are my favourite band but Cornell just shades it over Eddie with the range in his voice. Saying that they both compliment each other perfectly on Hunger Strike.

What a shitty day!!!!

When Zack announced he was going solo, I had worries about how the Rage guys would replace him. I mean, who could replace Zack???? Was this the end of Rage??

Then the rest of the guys eventually announced Chris Cornell would be doing vocals for them under a new name of Audioslave, and suddenly I was no longer worried.

Chris god damn Cornell.

Very sad. Along with Jane's Addiction, Sonic Youth and a few others their early stuff was pretty pioneering for heavy guitar music at the time. Gonna dig out "Louder than Love" tonight and give it a blast.

RATM were an utter abomination of a band. A complete embarrassment who make RHCP seem acceptable.

Both bands had great guitarists though.
