Everton Youth Teams Thread

Dunno what everyone's obsession is over Dowell. Just looks rank average to me but looks great on the highlight reels.

i think the same of coutinho tbh and people think he's good enough for barca, he's not like. But a player like dowell should be given a go, just to see what they can do at the top level, sometimes teams need those players that have an absolute stinker but can then pop one in the top corner from 25 yards and a 0-0 becomes a 1-0.

The depth of talent at U23s is as we all know incredible, there really will be some major planning needed. We could have put out a completely different 11 U23s players last night and be better in most positions : Griffiths; Connolly, Holgate, Galloway, Robinson; Davies, Walsh; Lookman, Duffus, Grant; DCL. And that still excludes the likes of Browning, Broadhead, maybe others.

I wonder which of the group have been told they're going? I expect a few more to move into the first team but with the likes of Feeney, Hornby etc. permanently moving up and the players Unsworth wants to buy we're going to have a massive squad if we can't secure loans/transfers.

Looks like the plan for Beni is to make him a core member of the u23 team next season.
I would have thought he was pushing for a first team opportunity. Hopefully he'll get one by this time next year. Needs a new contract soon.

Well I think it's more "you're core U23 but if they need you you can play for the first team". Probably see him like Williams is now, in the squad towards the end of the campaign. Assuming he progresses as he has been although if he keeps going he could end up in it sooner.

He's clipped his wings and stopped him expressing himself with his trademark surging runs.

He's neutered Barkley.

Didn't fancy him so much he bought him and played him, and gave Dowell his first team debut two seasons ago.

didnt realise koeman was manager last season too.
deulofeu was in and out the team under martinez, hardly a trusted player.
gave dowell his debut never to be seen again, well done roberto.

Delufeu, Barkley, Dowell...not fancied by this manager.

Draw your own conclusions.

Deulofeu - Talented player attacking wise, defensively and physically weak. Seemingly works best in a slower paced league

Barkley - Working his way back to his best after two wasted seasons that saw him lose his England place, adapting his game switching from front 3 to middle 3 depending on situation

Dowell - You admit yourself that you've only seem him play twice, I and many others have watched him many a time in U23s and while he has a hammer of a shot on him and can pick a pass, he needs a good season playing regular first team football at a decent level to see if he can replicate his U23 form

IF we do sell, we need to put the kind of buy back clause in there like Barca did with Gerry. If these boys go elsewhere and blow up, we need to secure the right to bring them back.
If they do well elsewhere and can not do well here, than I think I am afraid it is the sign of a much more deep rooted problem.

with us or football in general?
look at keane at burnley, heavily linked with a return to utd after they let him go.
I meant with ourselves within the club, but now that you mention it then I would suppose that yes it is an extension of a wider issue with the game. All this money cannot be good for it at the end of the day. or can it?

Sometimes it's timing or they are blocked. We have a glut of midfielders. Honestly they can't all stay at Everton and play regular first team football.
