Everton Youth Teams Thread

I think it's way more likely to be the former. He's got the skill. The question is whether he's Gerry D and Aiden McGeady, or Dele Ali who was playing at MK Dons, and as soon as he goes to Spurs, becomes maybe the best player in England.
Precisely. And only game time will settle that debate.

Didn't see it.

If Dowell didn't shine I wouldn't worry. The lad requires decent seasoned players around him with very good movement to give him something to pass to.
For me he has gone backwards in the last two seasons.
Two years ago I thought he was ready for the first team, last pre season I thought he was very ordinary and to get a shot at the first team he needs to be doing what Kenny is doing... putting in performances week after week that forces the manager to consider him.

Nobody is questioning the ability that Dowell has, but if he cannot dominate and stand out in an under 23 game how can he expect to play first team.
Forget Everton for a second. Look at top players at Clubs like Chelsea, Utd, City , Arsenal and others...all the players are sup talented but look how hard they work for ninety minutes...that is what Dowell has to do.

What happened to clubs only being able to recruit within a radius of the club? I remember Ray Hall making a joke that half of our allotted radius was in the Irish Sea and not many football players came from there.

Sorry but when you can recruit players from all over it makes a mockery of what the academy is supposed to be. Since this is academy football I would think you couldn't say it's restraint of movement for work, because they're not being paid in the younger age groups.

And has been said he'll spend 2 years at Chelsea and 4 in Holland and then released or sold.
Chelsea haven't the time or patience to allow youngsters develop in the first team
Mangers last 2/3 years and need instant results not building for the future.
If he had gone to Spurs ,fair enough but not Chelsea
Well we could at least give the kid a chance. He could very well set the league alite, for Chelsea.

Delufeu, Barkley, Dowell...not fancied by this manager.

Draw your own conclusions.

Lukaku wasn't given the chance
De Bruyne wasn't given the Chance

With the exception of Courthois I can't think of any Chelsea young player who has made the grade with Chelsea (i.e. Regular first team starter ) since Abramovich took over
Even Courthois had his spells on loan and came into the side ready made

Oh I admit they don't set a precedent for getting the money worth out of who they buy young. But we may have to see. YOU may be right.

And look at Nathan Ake, he is 22 now so hardly a youngster yet since being recalled from Bournemouth has played precisely 8 minutes of premier league football....

"La Pausa".

Sorry, I've just finished a book on Argentine football that describes what this lad has to a tee: La Pausa. The ability delay a pass, to delay it waiting for the player he is looking to feed to reach the ideal position to then make the pass.

Of course, he doesn't run 13km per game so he must be rubbish.

Vive le Ronvolucion!

...La Pausa it is then.

Well there's no conclusion drawing needed, whether you agree with him or not Koeman made it clear early on when he tweeted a picture of himself in the gym with " Hard work will beat talent if talent doesn't work hard" behind him on the USM Finch Farm wall

IF we do sell, we need to put the kind of buy back clause in there like Barca did with Gerry. If these boys go elsewhere and blow up, we need to secure the right to bring them back.

He's a dullard manager. Clueless tactically and relies on physical hard work and the smokescreen of his own playing career to persuade others he has something special to offer.
